Big Casting Reveal: Judith Light Confirms Role in ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’
Judith Light is stepping into the Marvel world in a new way, taking on a key role in the upcoming special The Punisher: One Last Kill.
The project continues the story of Frank Castle inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe and brings him into a new conflict centered around crime, revenge, and survival. The information comes from Marvel Studios announcements and reporting tied to production updates.
Light will play Ma Gnucci, a character tied to the darker corners of Marvel Comics. Speaking about the role, she hinted at the emotional depth behind the story and what audiences can expect. “I think people will be surprised. I think they will really appreciate it… This is really about transformation and what it means to be a person who holds on to revenge.”
The special is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Jon Bernthal alongside Green. It is produced by Marvel Studios for Disney+ and is part of Phase Six of the MCU. It also continues the storyline of Frank Castle after his return in Daredevil: Born Again.
Jon Bernthal returns as Frank Castle, a man still dealing with the trauma of losing his family while trying to move away from his violent past. The story focuses on his attempt to live a quieter life, but he is pulled back into conflict when a new criminal empire begins to rise. Jason R. Moore also returns as Curtis Hoyle, Castle’s close friend who helps him stay grounded.
Judith Light’s casting adds a new layer to the story, especially given Ma Gnucci’s reputation in the comics as a dangerous and ruthless figure. Her presence suggests the conflict in the special will push Castle into a very personal and psychological battle, not just physical violence.
Production on The Punisher: One Last Kill took place in New York City, with filming starting in mid-2025 and wrapping shortly after. The project was developed after Bernthal’s return to the MCU was confirmed, and it was later expanded into a full special presentation under Marvel Television.
The special is scheduled to release on May 12, and is expected to be one of the darker entries in the current MCU slate. It continues Marvel’s focus on street-level stories while exploring what happens when characters like Frank Castle are forced to confront the cost of their own revenge-driven lives.
