The BAFTA TV Awards in London delivered a big night for the Netflix series Adolescence, with Stephen Graham and his team making major history at the ceremony.

The information comes from BAFTA coverage and reporting by Deadline, which followed the winners at the Royal Festival Hall.

Stephen Graham won the award for Leading Actor after his eighth nomination across both film and television. It was a long-awaited win for the actor, who has been nominated many times before without taking home the prize.

The series Adolescence, which Graham co-created with Jack Thorne, also had a strong night. The show won multiple awards, including Limited Drama. Young actor Owen Cooper and actress Christine Tremarco also picked up supporting awards for their performances.

The series has already been a major success internationally. It is Netflix’s second most-watched English-language show of all time. It has also been a strong performer during awards season, picking up wins at the Emmys, Golden Globes, Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, and BAFTA Craft Awards before this latest ceremony.

Elsewhere at the BAFTA TV Awards, other shows also had strong wins. The BBC’s Celebrity Traitors and Prime Video’s Last One Laughing both picked up multiple awards during the night.

Actor Steve Coogan also won in the comedy category. During his win, he spoke briefly on the red carpet about his work and projects like The White Lotus.

Apple TV+ series The Studio won Best International award. Actor Seth Rogen dedicated the win to Catherine O’Hara during his acceptance.

In the current affairs category, the documentary Gaza: Doctors Under Attack won an award after previously being dropped by the BBC and later picked up by Channel 4. Producer Ben de Pear used his time on stage to raise concerns about the decision, adding tension to the evening.

The ceremony was hosted by comedian Greg Davies and took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. It featured major names from across the entertainment world, including Colin Firth, Aimee Lou Wood, Taron Egerton, and Matt Smith.

The event was also closely watched by the BBC and BAFTA after recent controversies in the industry, making this year’s ceremony a major moment for British television.
