Sam Raimi’s 2026 93% Horror Comeback Just Hit Disney+ — And Fans Are Loving It
Sam Raimi is back in horror, and his latest film is already becoming a major streaming hit. After years of jumping between big superhero projects and large studio films, Raimi has returned to the genre that made him famous in the first place.
His new movie, Send Help, first came out in theaters in January. Now that it has arrived on Disney+, it has quickly climbed to the top of the streaming charts. According to FlixPatrol, the film became the number one movie on Disney+ in its first week on the platform, even passing other popular titles that were trending at the same time.
The film marks another successful chapter for Raimi, who is known for starting his career with the cult horror franchise The Evil Dead. He later moved into major Hollywood productions like Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, before returning again to horror with this new project.
According to box office and streaming reports, Send Help was already a solid success before streaming. The film earned around $94 million worldwide on a $40 million budget, which made it a profitable release for the studio. But its real momentum came after its arrival on Disney+, where it quickly gained a new audience.

The story of the film follows Linda Liddle, played by Rachel McAdams, a quiet and often overlooked office worker who is constantly mistreated by her boss. That boss, Bradley Preston, is played by Dylan O’Brien.
Things take a dark turn when both characters end up stranded after a flight to Bangkok goes wrong. They are stuck on an island, and the power balance between them completely changes. Linda, who turns out to have stronger survival instincts, slowly takes control of the situation while Bradley struggles to stay in charge.
This setup leads into a mix of survival horror and dark comedy, which is very typical of Raimi’s style. The film mixes tense moments with strange humor and sudden bursts of violence, creating a tone that keeps shifting throughout.
Critical response to the film has been mostly positive. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds a 93% critics’ score and an 87% audience score, which shows strong approval from both reviewers and general viewers. Critics praised Raimi’s direction, especially his ability to mix horror with humor in a way that feels fast and unpredictable.
One review described the film’s style as controlled chaos. Critics highlighted the mix of “diabolical mayhem” and clever writing, saying that Raimi continues to balance fear and comedy in a way few directors can match.
Audience reactions have also been strong. Many viewers praised Rachel McAdams for her performance, saying she brings emotional weight to a character who slowly changes from a quiet employee into a survivor who takes control of her situation. Others described the movie as intense but fun, with enough twists to keep it unpredictable from start to finish.
Other reviews echoed similar thoughts, calling the film a strong return to form for Raimi and pointing out how it feels closer in spirit to his earlier horror work than his recent blockbuster projects.
With strong reviews, solid box office results, and a fast rise on Disney+, Send Help is proving to be another successful chapter in Sam Raimi’s career.
