‘The Midnight Library’ Movie Set With ‘Dune’ Star Florence Pugh Starring and Producing as Bestseller Gets Film Adaptation
Oscar nominee Florence Pugh is set to star in and produce a new fantasy drama called The Midnight Library, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Matt Haig. The film will be directed by Garth Davis, known for Lion, and is being described as a big emotional project built around themes of life, choice, and regret.
The story follows Nora Seed, a woman who ends up in a mysterious library that exists between life and death. In this place, she gets the chance to explore different versions of her life and see how things might have turned out if she had made different choices. According to the production team, Pugh will take on the lead role of Nora while also serving as a producer on the film.
The project is being developed by Studiocanal and Blueprint Pictures, who have worked together on several past films. The novel, first published in 2020, became a global hit with over 15 million copies sold and has been translated into dozens of languages.

The screenplay is written by Laura Wade and Nick Payne, both known for their work in theatre and film. Matt Haig is also involved as an executive producer on the adaptation.
Director Garth Davis spoke about the project and his collaboration with Florence Pugh, saying, “I couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Florence Pugh on The Midnight Library. Her warmth and talent are magical, and together I know we’ll do something special working with Matt’s iconic novel. This is a story that moves us both — a celebration of life in all its possibility and complexity.”
Matt Haig also shared his thoughts on the adaptation, saying, “I am so happy that Nora’s story is in such great hands, and that her myriad possibilities will be vividly reawakened by the absolute perfect team.”
The film is expected to enter pre-production in the fall, with filming planned for early 2027. It will also be one of Studiocanal’s largest-scale productions in recent years, with theatrical release planned across multiple international territories.
