According to reports from an open letter published at BlocktheMerger.com, opposition to the proposed Paramount and Warner Bros merger is growing quickly across Hollywood. More than 2,000 actors, directors, comedians, and other entertainment professionals have now signed the letter, calling for the deal to be stopped.

The $111 billion merger has become a major talking point in the industry. The letter now includes names like Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Edward Norton, and Atsuko Okatsuka. It was originally started by well-known actors, including Joaquin Phoenix, Ben Stiller, and Kristen Stewart.

The group behind the letter says the merger could hurt the future of the entertainment industry. They believe that putting two huge studios together would reduce competition and limit creative freedom.

In the letter, the signers wrote, The integrity, independence, and diversity of our industry would be grievously compromised. They also argue that big media companies should be more closely regulated. Their concern is that fewer major studios could lead to fewer opportunities for artists and less variety in the kinds of films and shows being made.

On the other side, Paramount Skydance has responded to the criticism. In a public statement, the company said it still plans to move forward with the deal and believes it will help the industry rather than harm it.

The company says it intends to increase production, with plans for at least 30 major films each year to be released in theaters. Their statement also said, We have been clear in our commitments to do just that. Despite this, opposition continues to grow. Actress Jane Fonda has also publicly criticized the merger.

At a recent Academy Awards event, she wore a pin supporting efforts to block the deal. She said in an interview, The Paramount merger is really problematic, pointing to concerns about media influence and corporate control.

While the debate continues, many of the actors involved are also busy with major film and television projects. Florence Pugh is currently preparing for Avengers: Doomsday and is also expected to return for Dune Part Three. She recently appeared in Thunderbolts*, which added to her growing list of blockbuster roles.

Pedro Pascal is also in a busy period in his career. He recently starred in the second season of The Last of Us and is set to appear in major upcoming projects, including a new Avengers film and The Mandalorian and Grogu.

As more names are added to the letter, the discussion around the merger continues to divide Hollywood. Some see it as a threat to creativity, while others argue it could bring more stability and output to the industry.
