The search for the next James Bond is moving forward, and new details are giving a clearer idea of what kind of actor Amazon MGM is looking for to take on the iconic role.

According to casting director Nina Gold, who is now working with Amazon MGM on the franchise, the next 007 must have strong screen presence and physical appeal. Speaking about the role, she said the actor chosen needs to stand out in a very specific way.

“[They’ve got] to ooze sex appeal,” she said, while also making it clear that the basics still matter, including solid acting ability.

Gold has reportedly been keeping an eye on potential candidates for a while, even before her deal with Amazon MGM was formally signed. The goal is to find someone who can step into the role of James Bond and stay in it across multiple films.

Another key factor is age. The actor needs to be young enough to carry the character through at least three or four movies, possibly more, depending on the direction of the franchise. That means Amazon is not just looking for talent, but also someone who can commit long-term to the role.

The casting process is also expected to draw heavily from theatre and stage performances, not just film and television. Gold has a history of finding major talent through theatre work, and past Bond casting has followed a similar path. Daniel Craig, for example, was discovered through a mix of film roles like “Layer Cake” and stage performances in productions such as “A Number” and “Hurlyburly.”

This approach suggests Amazon may continue looking at actors who already have strong live performance experience and can handle complex roles under pressure.

Industry chatter also points to ongoing discussions about several rising actors from theatre and screen, as casting teams continue attending stage productions to scout talent. The process is still in early stages, and no official shortlist has been confirmed.

What is clear from Gold’s comments is that the next James Bond will need a mix of physical confidence, strong acting skills, and long-term potential. The role is not just about action scenes or fame, but about someone who can carry the character across multiple big films while maintaining a strong and believable presence on screen.

The search continues, but the expectations are already set high for whoever steps into the role next.
