Cate Blanchett, Selena Gomez, and Michael Fassbender are set to star in the next film from “The Brutalist” director Brady Corbet, according to reporting from Variety.

The casting news was first hinted at during a Cannes Film Festival masterclass on Sunday, where Blanchett mentioned she was preparing to work with Corbet. Variety later confirmed that she has officially joined the project. Gomez and Fassbender are also attached to star, with Gomez’s involvement previously reported by The InSneider.

The new film is still untitled and is being kept tightly under wraps. However, Corbet has shared a few details about his vision in past interviews. He described the project as an ambitious and unconventional film set mainly in the 1970s, with story elements stretching from the 19th century into the present day.

“The film spans from the 19th century into the present day — it’s just predominantly focused on the ’70s. The film is really, really genre-defying,” Corbet said in an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

He has also said that the project will be large in scope, noting that the script is around 200 pages long, which suggests a long runtime. That would put it beyond even “The Brutalist,” which already ran more than three hours.

The film is also expected to use rare 65mm film cameras, continuing Corbet’s interest in large-format, cinematic visuals. Producer Andrew Morrison is attached through Kaplan Morrison, and the project will mark Corbet’s fourth feature film after “The Childhood of a Leader,” “Vox Lux,” and “The Brutalist.”

Cate Blanchett brings major awards history to the project, with two Oscars and collaborations with directors like Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Guillermo del Toro, and Wes Anderson. Her most recent work includes Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother,” which won the Golden Lion at Venice.

Selena Gomez also continues to expand her film career alongside her music and business work. She began as a Disney Channel star before moving into films like “Spring Breakers.” More recently, she appeared in Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez,” which earned her a Cannes acting award shared with her co-stars. She also stars in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” which has run for five seasons and continues to be renewed.

Details about the story and characters in Corbet’s new film have not been revealed yet, and representatives for the actors have not commented publicly, according to Variety.
