Brendan Fraser’s ‘Pressure’ Sets Release in Less Than Two Weeks as WWII Drama Builds Buzz – See the First Clip
Brendan Fraser is back in the spotlight again with a major new role that is already getting attention.
Fraser, who built his early career with films like The Mummy and George of the Jungle, saw a major career comeback in 2022 with The Whale. His performance in that film earned him the Best Actor Oscar and brought him back into major Hollywood projects.
Now he is stepping into another big production, a World War II drama directed by Anthony Maras. The film is based on a stage play by David Haig, who also wrote the screenplay. It focuses on a tense 72-hour period before D-Day, one of the most important military operations in history.
In Pressure, Fraser plays General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Allied commander who had to make a final decision on whether to launch the massive invasion. He works alongside Captain James Stagg, played by Andrew Scott, who helps guide key decisions using weather predictions. The story focuses on the pressure, uncertainty, and responsibility behind the historic moment.
The film also highlights the role of real historical figure James Stagg, a meteorologist who influenced the timing of the invasion by advising on weather conditions. This adds a different angle to the usual war movie approach, focusing more on planning and decision-making instead of battlefield action.
The cast includes several well-known actors such as Damian Lewis, Kerry Condon, Chris Messina, and others. The production is handled by Working Title Films, with distribution from Focus Features.
Pressure is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 29. It is being described as one of Fraser’s most important upcoming roles since his Oscar win.
Industry discussion around the film suggests it could be another strong awards-season contender for Fraser, depending on his performance. After his Oscar win for The Whale, this new role places him back in a serious dramatic setting, this time in a historical war story.
