Amazon Drops Final Trailer for R-Rated ‘Spider-Noir’ Series as Nicolas Cage Faces a Dark New Sinister Six
A new live-action Spider-Man story is arriving soon, and it is taking a darker and more unusual path than fans might expect. The upcoming series Spider-Noir is bringing a fresh version of Marvel’s web-slinger to the screen, along with a new take on one of his most famous enemy teams.
The final trailer for the Amazon and MGM+ series shows Nicolas Cage stepping into the role of a different Spider-Man variant, set in a gritty 1930s world. In this version, Cage plays Ben Reilly, who operates as a masked crime fighter known as The Spider. The footage also reveals that he will face a group inspired by the Sinister Six, though the lineup appears slightly changed and is described more like a “Sinister Five” in the trailer.
Unlike past Spider-Man stories that focus on Peter Parker, this series shifts the spotlight to a different character in a darker setting. The show is developed by Oren Uziel, with Steven Lightfoot serving as showrunner. It continues the idea of exploring alternate Spider-Man universes, a concept that has grown in popularity across recent Marvel projects.
Nicolas Cage is no stranger to this version of the character. He previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in the animated Spider-Verse films. Those films were created by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are also involved as executive producers on this new live-action adaptation. The series marks a reunion between Cage and the creative team.
The villain lineup includes several familiar Marvel names. Abraham Popoola plays Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone. Brendan Gleeson appears as Silvermane, while Jack Huston takes on Flint Marko, better known as Sandman. Andrew Lewis Caldwell also joins the cast as Dirk Leydon, a character known as Megawatt.
The story is set in a stylized, crime-heavy version of New York, where the hero must deal with organized crime and rising threats from superpowered criminals. The trailer emphasizes a much more grounded and noir-inspired tone compared to typical Spider-Man stories.
The series is part of a growing effort to expand live-action Spider-Man variants across television. It is not yet confirmed whether Spider-Noir will continue beyond its first season, as future plans depend on audience response. However, more Spider-Man-related TV projects are reportedly in development.
Spider-Noir is set to premiere on MGM+ in the United States on May 25, before arriving on Prime Video on May 27. The show will be available in both black-and-white and color versions, giving viewers a choice in how they experience this darker version of Marvel’s world.
