‘Evil’ Star Mike Colter Shares Scrapped Plans for Season 5
Evil may have ended with season 4, but according to Mike Colter, the story was far from finished. Speaking during Fan Expo Vancouver in an interview with The Direct, Colter opened up about what the creative team originally planned for a possible fifth season before the show was canceled.
Colter explained that the cast and crew did not expect the series to end when it did. He said the team believed the show still had several seasons left and felt surprised when the cancellation happened, especially because the series had started gaining more attention after moving to Paramount+.
Talking about the situation, Colter said, “We were blindsided. We didn’t realize the show was gonna be pulled.” He also shared that the delays caused by COVID and the writers’ strike made the team hopeful that the show would finally build momentum once everything returned to normal.
The actor revealed that the creators, Robert and Michelle King, had to push hard just to secure four extra episodes to properly close out the story. According to Colter, the goal was to leave the series open enough for a future return if another network or streaming platform became interested.
He explained, “The Kings had to fight to get four more episodes to bring some sort of closure to the show, as it were, leaving it in a place where they could pick it up if they wanted to.”
Colter also shared some of the story ideas that were planned for season 5. He said there were still many unfinished plotlines involving characters like Leland Townsend, Kristen Bouchard, and her husband Andy. One of the bigger mysteries involved the possibility that one of Kristen’s daughters could actually be connected to Leland.

The actor was especially interested in where the story would take David, his priest character. By the end of season 4, David had started experiencing stronger supernatural abilities, including the power to see through other people and possibly even control them. Colter hinted that this power might have slowly corrupted the character over time.
He said, “I was interested in seeing where that was gonna go and how far he could take that in terms of being able to transfer himself into someone’s body and be able to control them, and also how that would also maybe corrupt him.”
Series co-creator Robert King had also previously spoken about plans for another season. In comments to TV Insider, King revealed that season 5 would have explored darker stories involving the legal system and demonic influence spreading through the courts. Kristen would reportedly have played a bigger role in those storylines.
Even though there are currently no official plans to revive Evil, fans still continue to hope the supernatural drama could eventually return. The final episodes intentionally left the door open, especially after David and Kristen moved to the Vatican to continue their investigations together.
Evil originally premiered on CBS in 2019 before moving to Paramount+, where it built a strong fanbase thanks to its mix of horror, mystery, and psychological drama. The series starred Mike Colter, Katja Herbers, Michael Emerson, and Patrick Brammall.
