Superman vs. Homelander: ‘The Boys’ Creator Eric Kripke Weighs In on Which Supe Would Win in a Fight
The debate between Superman and Homelander has been a long-running topic among fans of superhero stories. On one side, there is Superman, a symbol of hope and control. On the other side is Homelander from The Boys, a violent and unstable version of a superhero with no moral limits.
In an interview with The Wrap, Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys, gave his thoughts on who would win in a fight between the two. He made it clear that his loyalty stays with his own character, Homelander, even if the matchup is not a fair one.
Kripke said, “I mean, obviously, I got to give to my boy Homelander. The thing is Homelander will fight dirty. Is Superman stronger pound for pound? Probably. But is Homelander willing to murder Lois Lane and rip off Jimmy Olsen’s face and wear it as his own face? And you know, rip Krypto limb from limb? Homelander just doesn’t have the morality that Superman does and that’s a strong advantage.”
His point was not about raw strength alone. Instead, he focused on how differently both characters behave in a fight. Superman is known for restraint and protecting people, while Homelander is shown in The Boys as someone who does not care about rules or innocent lives.
This comparison has led to a bigger discussion among fans and critics. Many agree that Superman is far more powerful in a physical sense. He is often shown as almost invincible, capable of moving at extreme speeds, surviving massive destruction, and fighting cosmic-level threats. Homelander, while strong in his own world, is still limited compared to that scale.
However, the argument changes when morality is removed from the equation. Homelander is unpredictable and willing to hurt anyone to win. That creates a different kind of danger that Superman does not usually face.
Kripke’s comments highlight that contrast. He suggests that Homelander’s lack of limits could make him dangerous in a fight, even if he is not the stronger opponent. In his view, Superman’s biggest strength is also his weakness, because he refuses to cross certain lines.
Still, the broader comparison between the two characters shows a clear gap in power. Superman is often described as a near-cosmic figure, while Homelander operates on a more grounded level within the world of The Boys. Their abilities are not designed to be equal, which is why fans continue to debate the outcome.
Even in a hypothetical fight, strategy and psychology would matter as much as strength. Homelander would likely try to use fear and chaos, while Superman would focus on protecting people and ending the fight quickly without unnecessary harm.
In the end, Kripke’s comments reflect the core idea behind The Boys itself. Homelander is built as a darker reflection of traditional superheroes like Superman. One represents hope and discipline, while the other represents unchecked power without morality.
