‘Off Campus’ Sparks Controversy as Ella Bright Defends Age Gap With Co-Star Belmont Cameli
The conversation around “Off Campus” has been getting a lot of attention online, mostly because of the age gap between the two lead actors. The details come from an interview given by Ella Bright on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast hosted by Amanda Hirsch.
Bright, who is 19 years old, spoke openly about working with her co-star Belmont Cameli, who is 28. Fans have been surprised by their age difference, especially because the series includes romantic and intimate scenes between their characters.
Bright said she understands why people react strongly, but she made it clear that she was fully aware of what the role involved from the beginning. She explained that she was 18 when filming started and had no doubts about joining the project. She said, “There was never a question that I wouldn’t want to do this.”
She also talked about how she prepared for the role and how the process felt from her side. Bright said she came into the project after chemistry reads and already knew what the story and scenes required. She described quickly connecting with the character and the script, saying she immediately fell in love with the role and the story.
The series “Off Campus” is based on books by Elle Kennedy. It follows college students at a fictional university called Briar University. The story focuses on relationships, friendships, and young adult life, especially the connection between Hannah Wells, played by Bright, and Garrett Graham, played by Cameli.
In the show, Hannah and Garrett start with a fake dating plan. Hannah wants to make another guy jealous, but the plan slowly turns into real feelings between her and Garrett. This is where most of the romantic drama and emotional tension comes from in the series.

Bright also spoke about the working environment on set. She said she never felt uncomfortable or left out because of her age. According to her, the cast and crew worked closely together and treated each other like a family. She said the experience felt safe and professional throughout filming. She added, “We’re all such a family and everyone was just more than perfect, and I couldn’t be more comfortable on this set with these people.”
She also addressed fans who question the age gap because of the romantic scenes. Bright said she understands their concern, but she personally never felt any issue while filming. She explained that everyone involved knew exactly what the show would include before filming started, and there were clear expectations for each role.
The topic of intimacy in the show also came up during the podcast discussion. Bright said that some scenes include partial nudity, and that all actors were informed ahead of time about what would be required. She mentioned that different characters had different levels of comfort and openness built into the story, and everyone agreed to those terms before filming.
Host Amanda Hirsch also spoke during the interview and defended the show’s approach. She said Bright’s character is an adult college student and pointed out that while the content can be bold, it is not extreme.
Outside the podcast, Bright has also spoken before about her friendship with Cameli. In earlier comments shared at a fan convention, she described him as kind and supportive and said they became close very quickly while working long filming days together.
The discussion around the show continues online, but Bright’s main message is simple. From her point of view, everything on set was clear, professional, and agreed on from the start.
