Original ‘Baywatch’ Stars Reunite on the Beach as Reboot Filming Begins: Kelly Packard, David Chokachi & Michael Bergin Spotted on Set
Original stars from “Baywatch” have returned to the beach as filming begins for the new reboot series. Kelly Packard, David Chokachi, and Michael Bergin were all spotted shooting new scenes in Venice Beach, California on May 27. The shoot marks a major reunion for the franchise as Fox brings back familiar faces for the updated version of the iconic lifeguard drama.
The actors were seen filming in classic beach settings, with the production leaning into the same sun-soaked style that made the original series famous. The return of the three cast members has drawn attention from fans who grew up watching the show in the 1990s and early 2000s.
David Chokachi, now 58, is reprising his role as Cody Madison. He originally played the character from seasons six through nine of the original series. His return was confirmed earlier this year as part of the reboot plans. According to Fox, Cody Madison has evolved since his early days on the beach. In the new version, he now runs a beachside bar and grill called “The Shoreline,” while still stepping back into lifeguard duty when needed. The character is also described as a mentor figure who supports younger lifeguards and keeps the old Baywatch spirit alive.
Kelly Packard, who is 51, is also returning to her role as April Giminski. She played the character in the later seasons of the original show, specifically seasons eight and nine. Her return adds another familiar face to the reboot, connecting the new series directly to the legacy of the original cast.
Michael Bergin, now 57, is back as Jack “J.D.” Darius. He joined the original series in season eight and remained part of the show through its final run, including “Baywatch: Hawaii.” His return continues the trend of bringing back long-time characters for the reboot storyline.
The new series is not just a simple continuation but a reimagining of the original world. According to Fox, the story now follows a new generation connected to the original lifeguards. Hobie Buchannon, the son of the legendary Mitch Buchannon, is now a captain at Baywatch. His life changes when a woman named Charlie, who is revealed to be his daughter, appears and decides to follow the same lifeguard path.
The reboot also ties in older characters with new roles. Cody Madison’s beachfront business becomes a central meeting place for lifeguards, blending nostalgia with a new setting. The show is described as combining action, family drama, and the classic beach rescue format that made the original series popular worldwide.
Fox has scheduled the reboot of “Baywatch” to premiere in January 2027. After its broadcast debut, the series will also be available for streaming on Hulu.
The return of original cast members has created early buzz around the project, especially with filming now underway in real beach locations. Fans of the original show are seeing familiar faces return to familiar sands, signaling a strong connection between the past and the new version of the franchise.
