‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Drops Fresh Look at Tom Holland’s Suit
A new look at Tom Holland as Spider-Man has been revealed, and it comes from Empire magazine.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be the 38th entry in the MCU and continues the story of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). It is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man. This time, the story follows him as he tries to protect New York City while staying anonymous. The world has forgotten who he is after the spell cast by Doctor Strange in No Way Home, which has left him completely on his own.
The film shows Peter dealing with a more isolated life. He is no longer part of the Avengers or supported by his close friends like MJ and Ned. Instead, he focuses on being a street-level hero in New York. At the same time, his powers begin to change in unexpected ways, which adds more pressure to his already difficult life.
According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, this movie focuses more on the classic version of Spider-Man. He explained in an interview with Empire that Peter is now living like the traditional comic book version of the character. He said, “He’s doing the Spidey thing of living in a rather sad, small apartment, listening to the police scanner and going out and using his great power responsibly.”
The story also explores Peter’s emotional state after losing Aunt May and being separated from the people he once cared about. Director Destin Daniel Cretton explained that Peter is throwing himself into his work as Spider-Man as a way to cope with loss. He said, “He is dedicating his entire existence to his job. That’s the core theme that I find incredibly relatable.”
Producer Amy Pascal also shared that this film focuses more on emotion than big destruction scenes. She described it as a more personal story, saying the scale comes from Peter’s feelings rather than global threats.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also feature several familiar and new characters. Zendaya returns as MJ, who is now attending MIT and dealing with changes in her relationship with Peter. Jacob Batalon returns as Ned Leeds, who is also trying to move forward while still connected to Peter’s past.
Jon Bernthal appears as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. His role brings a darker edge to the story, and his dynamic with Spider-Man is expected to shift between conflict and teamwork. Mark Ruffalo also joins as Bruce Banner, who helps Peter understand changes in his powers.
Other cast members include Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando as Scorpion, and Marvin Jones III as Tombstone. The film also brings back characters tied to earlier Spider-Man stories, adding more connections to Peter’s past.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release in the United States on July 31, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. The film continues to build a new direction for the character, focusing on Peter Parker’s identity, independence, and life as a solo hero in New York City.
