Jensen Ackles Teases One Major Soldier Boy Mystery He Wants Solved in ‘Vought Rising’
Jensen Ackles wants one major unanswered question about Soldier Boy to finally be explained in Vought Rising, the upcoming Prime Video prequel set in the world of The Boys. The comments come from an interview with ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender during the red carpet premiere of the final season of The Boys.
Ackles was asked about the ongoing fan discussion around Soldier Boy’s past relationship with Clara, a storyline that has become a recurring topic online. The conversation has turned into something of a meme among fans, especially because the show has left many details about that relationship unclear or inconsistent.
In response, Ackles said he hopes the prequel will finally give more emotional context to that part of Soldier Boy’s history. He focused on what that relationship meant to the character and why it still seems to affect him decades later. He said, “I think just understanding the emotional gravity of it all, and why, why it’s stuck with Soldier Boy for 80 years. How, how magnetic was that relationship, and what is it that tethers him to it, even today?”
His comments point to a key mystery that fans have debated for some time. In the main series, Soldier Boy often references Clara in ways that suggest she had a major influence on him. One of the most talked-about lines is “It’s what Clara would have wanted,” which appears during a moment involving Homelander and a controversial decision tied to Stormfront. The line has been widely shared online and turned into a meme because of how it connects multiple confusing parts of the story.
The issue for fans is that Soldier Boy’s feelings about Clara and Stormfront do not always line up clearly across episodes. At times, he shows hostility toward Homelander, and at other moments he behaves protectively. This shifting dynamic has created uncertainty about what his real motivations are and how important Clara truly was to him.
That is where Vought Rising comes in. The series is expected to explore Soldier Boy’s early years in the 1950s and expand on the origins of Vought itself. It will also feature Aya Cash returning as Stormfront, known in her early identity as Clara Vought.
Ackles also briefly addressed the tone of the upcoming series. He suggested that while the show will feel familiar to fans of The Boys, it will also stand on its own. As he put it, “It won’t feel unfamiliar, but it will feel differently.” That points to a prequel that keeps the dark, violent style of the original series but shifts into a different storytelling approach, likely tied to its period setting and murder mystery structure.
Vought Rising is currently expected to debut in 2027 on Prime Video. It will explore the early formation of Vought, Soldier Boy’s rise, and Stormfront’s hidden role in shaping events behind the scenes.
For Ackles, the main interest is not just action or backstory, but emotional clarity. His comments suggest that the biggest goal of the prequel should be to explain why Soldier Boy remains emotionally tied to Clara after so many years, and how that relationship shaped the version of him seen in The Boys.
