Zendaya Uncovers the Hidden Meaning Behind Rue’s Iconic Rings in ‘Euphoria’
Zendaya has opened up about a personal detail behind her character Rue’s look in Euphoria, explaining that part of the character’s style comes directly from her own family. The actress, who is 29, shared that some of Rue’s jewelry on the show actually belongs to her mother, jewelry designer Claire Stoermer.
In an interview with Elle published on May 28, Zendaya talked about Rue’s simple and unchanged wardrobe across the series. She said the character keeps a very steady style, even when her life becomes chaotic.
“This is miss Rue, going through it as always,” Zendaya said while looking at a still from the upcoming season. She described the outfit as a plain white tank top paired with a vintage button-up shirt, pointing out how Rue often repeats the same pieces instead of changing her look.
Zendaya explained that the small details in Rue’s outfits were intentional. One of those details is the rings Rue wears on her pointer and middle fingers. Those rings, she revealed, were originally owned by her mother.
“There’s two rings she wears on these two fingers,” Zendaya said. “Those were my mom’s rings.”
Her mother, Claire Stoermer, is a jewelry designer and runs her own brand called Kizzmet Jewelry. She creates handmade pieces that often include natural stones like amethyst and hematite. Zendaya has supported her mother’s work for years and has worn her designs both in her personal life and in public appearances.
Zendaya has previously spoken about her mother’s work on social media. In a post from 2016, she wrote, “So my mom’s a dope ass jewelry designer/maker and also slays my line,” showing pride in her mother’s creative career.
According to Zendaya, Rue’s wardrobe reflects her personality and emotional state. Even though the character goes through unpredictable and intense situations in the show, her outward appearance stays the same. Zendaya said Rue prefers comfort and routine when it comes to clothing.
She explained, “While incredibly unpredictable, I think the way she presents herself to the world is also really consistent. She likes to make sure that she herself is comfortable and stays in her comfort zone. So it’s the same shoes, same hair, same tank top.”
Zendaya also said she keeps many of the costumes from the show in an archive, including outfits worn throughout the series. This shows how closely she connects with the character and the work that goes into building Rue’s identity on screen.

Outside of Euphoria, Zendaya and her longtime stylist Law Roach are known for careful and planned styling choices. Their work often includes storytelling through clothing, both on red carpets and in film promotions. Roach has previously said that their styling decisions are always connected to the story being told, not just fashion trends.
The final episode of Euphoria season three is scheduled to air on May 31 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
