James Van Der Beek’s Ex-Wife Remarries Just Three Months After His Death
Actress Heather McComb has remarried just months after the death of her former husband, actor James Van Der Beek. McComb, 49, confirmed that she married Campbell over the weekend in a private ceremony held in Missoula, Montana.
McComb and Van Der Beek were previously married for seven years before divorcing in 2010. Van Der Beek, best known for Dawson’s Creek and Varsity Blues, died earlier this year after a battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer. His passing at age 48 drew widespread reactions from fans and colleagues across Hollywood.
McComb shared the news of her wedding on Instagram, posting photos from the ceremony along with a personal message. She described the day as emotional and meaningful, writing that she and Campbell were married “under the covenant of God” and surrounded by close friends and family.
In her post, she said, “my beautiful sister officiated the ceremony, surrounded by the people we love most in the world in our most favorite city Missoula Montana.” She added that the celebration left them feeling grateful and overwhelmed by support. “Our hearts are full and humbled by all of the love that we were surrounded by. God is so good. Thank you to all of our family and friends who traveled from all over the country to be with us.”
Scott Michael Campbell also shared photos from the wedding on his own account. He described the moment as deeply special and expressed his feelings about marrying McComb. “BEYOND BLESSED for the most AMAZING week getting married to the BEAUTIFUL soul,” he wrote in his post.
The news comes only a few months after McComb publicly mourned the death of Van Der Beek. Following his passing, she shared a tribute on Instagram where she expressed sadness and reflected on their shared past. She posted a throwback photo of the two and remembered him as a kind and gentle person from their younger years.
In her tribute, McComb wrote, “I am especially heartbroken for his incredible wife Kimberly, his beautiful children and his amazing family.” She also reflected on their history together, saying, “This picture is from my 21st birthday. Dawson’s Creek hadn’t even aired yet. This is how I will always see James, innocent, kind and pure of heart.”
She went on to express gratitude for the time they shared and offered prayers for his family. “James was a blessing to all that knew him,” she wrote, adding that his openness about his life and health journey had impacted many people.
The remarriage has drawn attention online mainly because of the timing, coming shortly after Van Der Beek’s death. However, McComb’s posts focused on love, faith, and gratitude as she marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life with Campbell.
The wedding was a small, family-centered event that took place in Montana, with close friends and relatives present for the ceremony.
