Stephen King Gives High Praise to Breakout New Crime Thriller

Stephen King is drawing attention to a new crime thriller novel after sharing a very positive review online.

King, who is known for major horror novels such as Carrie, The Shining, It, Misery, and The Green Mile, often shares his thoughts on books and films he enjoys. His opinions are widely followed because many of his works have also been adapted into successful movies and TV projects.

In his recent post, King gave strong praise to Harper’s new book and described it in very direct terms. He referred to it as a “barn-burner” and compared its intensity to one of the most famous psychological thrillers in modern literature.

A Violent Masterpiece was released on April 28 and has already gained attention among readers. It follows Harper’s 2023 novel Everybody Knows and continues his focus on dark crime stories set in modern Los Angeles. The book brings together several characters, including a livestream journalist, a defense lawyer, and a fixer who works for wealthy clients. Their lives become connected through a larger case involving a missing woman, a serial killer, and powerful figures in society.

Jordan Harper is also known for having his work adapted for screen projects. His 2017 novel She Rides Shotgun was turned into a film released in 2025 starring Taron Egerton. Another adaptation based on Everybody Knows is currently in development, which has increased interest in his newer work.

King’s review has also added more visibility to A Violent Masterpiece. The strong comparison to The Silence of the Lambs has especially caught readers’ attention, as it places Harper’s book alongside one of the most influential psychological thrillers ever written.
