The much-teased “surprise” tied to the Avengers: Doomsday rollout ended up being a lot smaller than fans expected, but it still drew attention when directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo appeared at a Doctor Doom-themed coffee pop-up in London.

According to fan reports shared online and early coverage, the surprise event took place around 2pm in East London, where a temporary coffee shop called Dom Latveria Coffee had been set up. The location is a rebranded version of Flying Horse Coffee in Shoreditch and sits close to the SXSW London festival, where the Russo brothers are also scheduled to appear for an AGBO-related event.

The appearance itself was brief but drew a crowd. Fans were still excited to see the Russos in person, even though the outcome of the teased “surprise” was not what many had been hoping for. Instead of a trailer or major Marvel reveal, the directors showed up at around 2:15pm and handed out Latveria flags and signed bags of coffee to visitors.

Even with the frustration, many attendees still expressed excitement at seeing the filmmakers up close, treating the moment as a rare chance to interact with the creative team behind some of Marvel’s biggest films.

The pop-up itself leaned heavily into Marvel-style worldbuilding. Visitors shared videos and images online showing Latveria-themed branding, coffee bags, and signage inspired by the fictional home country of Doctor Doom. One slogan on the packaging read, “The official coffee of world domination.” Another line added, “Approved by the ministry of morale. Resistance is delicious.”

The coffee branding also included fictional details claiming the beans came from the “Finca Latveria Reserve” and were harvested by “those who serve.” Despite the dramatic storytelling, fans noted that the coffee itself appeared to be standard blends dressed in themed packaging.

Another detail that caught attention was a sign inside the shop that read “Welcome to Latveria” followed by the phrase “Richards was wrong,” a clear reference to Marvel character Reed Richards and his long-running rivalry with Doctor Doom.

The event came after several days of online speculation driven by cryptic posts from former Fortnite creative director Donald Mustard, who now works with the Russos at AGBO. His teaser about a “surprise at 2pm” led many fans to believe a major reveal or first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday was about to drop.

Because Doctor Doom is expected to play a major role in the upcoming film, the coffee shop stunt quickly fueled theories that a bigger announcement was coming. When nothing major arrived, reactions online ranged from disappointment to jokes about the marketing strategy.

Still, despite the backlash, the in-person appearance of the Russo brothers was widely acknowledged as a highlight for fans who were there. Many shared that even though the reveal fell short of expectations, seeing the filmmakers in person made the experience worthwhile.

Marvel Studios has not officially commented on the event or the ongoing speculation. For now, fans continue waiting for the first official footage from Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to release in theaters on December 18.
