The wait to step into the coveralls of the most iconic slasher in horror history just got a whole lot more real. A brand new single player story mode trailer for ‘Halloween: The Game’ has arrived, offering the clearest look yet at what it will feel like to stalk the unsuspecting residents of Haddonfield as Michael Myers himself.

‘Halloween: The Game’ is an official video game based on John Carpenter’s original horror classic, developed by IllFonic and Gun Interactive, and set to launch on September 8, 2026, featuring online multiplayer, offline bots, and a dedicated single player story mode. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The single player story mode begins with Michael incarcerated at Smith’s Grove Sanitarium and will recreate many iconic locations from the original 1978 film, with the developers promising that questions left unanswered in John Carpenter’s movie, including what actually happened at Phelps Garage, will be explored throughout the game. The mode will thrust players into the coveralls of The Shape, having them face off against the townspeople of Haddonfield, the police, and Dr. Loomis.

IllFonic’s Lead Designer Jordan Mathewson told Bloody Disgusting, “It’s such a fun mode. You’ll get to have a very controlled Halloween experience that will hopefully drive even more people towards the multiplayer. We can’t wait to show it off in the near future.”

Beyond the story content, the broader game has been generating serious hype among horror fans. Unlike most asymmetrical horror titles, the game places Michael in a first-person perspective during Killer Sense mode, allowing players to scan the environment for prey in a way that should massively increase immersion in the slasher experience. Motion capture for The Shape was performed by original ‘Halloween’ actor Nick Castle alongside actor and stuntman T.J. Storm, with franchise producer Malek Akkad on board and John Carpenter himself serving as executive producer.

The developers describe the single player mode as a confident venture into the realm of more traditional story content, a notable ambition for a studio whose DNA is primarily rooted in multiplayer design. For a genre that has seen titles like ‘Friday the 13th: The Game’ and ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ struggle to retain their player bases over time, that commitment to a self-contained narrative could prove to be exactly what keeps this one alive long after launch day.

With September 8 fast approaching, ‘Halloween: The Game’ is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious licensed horror games in years, and for fans of John Carpenter’s legendary franchise, the chance to finally experience the night he came home from the other side of the knife is a proposition that is very hard to resist.
