The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Toy Leaks Are Here and They’re Giving Away Everything
There is a long and storied tradition of Marvel merchandise spoiling what movie studios would rather keep secret, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is no different. Hasbro’s action figures have a way of landing on overseas retail shelves before the marketing machine is ready, and this time the figures spotted on a Polish retail site and amplified by toy blogger @idlehandsblog have given fans their most detailed look yet at some of the film’s biggest character designs months ahead of the film’s December release.
The figures themselves cover both Titan Series and ActionVerse product lines, meaning the leaks span multiple scales and offer unusually comprehensive design confirmations. For a film the Russo Brothers have reportedly gone to significant lengths to keep spoiler-free, shooting primarily on soundstages to avoid set photographs, the irony of a retail toy database doing the heavy lifting is not lost on anyone following this closely.
The most discussed figure in the leak is undoubtedly Doctor Doom himself. The Hasbro Titan Series Doctor Doom figure features a green hooded cloak, silver metallic armor with a segmented chest plate and gauntlets, a stern silver mask, and black armored boots, alongside red energy blast accessories that hint at the kind of power Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom will wield on screen. It is the clearest confirmation yet that Marvel is leaning into a classically comic-accurate design for one of the publisher’s most iconic villains.
Not every reveal has been received with equal enthusiasm. Sam Wilson will be wearing a slightly bluer version of the costume he had in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, with Marvel Studios moving away from the distinctive white design featured in the comics and ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ for a version more in line with what Steve Rogers once wore. Fans who had hoped the white suit would carry over into the ensemble film have expressed disappointment, though the design debate will likely continue until official marketing settles the question.
Thor’s figure has generated considerably more excitement. The figure shows the God of Thunder in a dark armored suit with a red cape, a glowing yellow helmet, and both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, surrounded by crackling lightning effects. The dual-weapon configuration has already become a talking point, suggesting Chris Hemsworth’s character will be operating at full power for what could be his most consequential appearance yet in a Multiverse-spanning story.
The second wave of figures packaged alongside the first-wave characters deepens the crossover stakes considerably. The ActionVerse packaging provides first looks at Beast in a classic X-Men belt, a shirtless Thing in rocky form, a fully flamed-on Human Torch, and Captain America, confirming the presence of both the Fantastic Four and at least one prominent X-Men character in the film’s ensemble.
The first wave of figures spotlights Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Thing, Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch, and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast. That last name is particularly significant given Grammer’s history with the X-Men franchise, tying the new film directly to the Fox-era mutant universe that Marvel has been methodically weaving into the MCU.
The broader confirmed cast for the film is staggering in scope. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden are confirmed to return as Professor X, Magneto, and Cyclops respectively, while the cast also features Vanessa Kirby, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and many others. Joe Russo told Collider that the production has been strategically “pretty stringent” about avoiding leaks, filming in soundstages to keep costume and story details under wraps.
Given that toys just revealed some of those details anyway, it seems the strategy has its limits.
What do you think of the leaked ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ character designs, and which figure are you most excited to see brought to life on screen? Tell us in the comments.
