Anna Faris says some of the wildest ideas for Scary Movie never made it into the final version of the movie, including a joke that would have sent her character, Cindy Campbell, down a political conspiracy rabbit hole.

Speaking about scenes that were ultimately cut, Faris revealed that she had pushed for a version of Cindy that was even more outrageous than what audiences saw on screen. According to the actress, the idea was to portray Cindy as someone completely caught up in bizarre online theories and public confrontations.

Faris explained, “I was always pushing for Cindy to be a classic MAGA rabbit hole. The kind of person that you saw outside of the Walmart during Quarantine that was raising some kind of crazy ass fuss.”

One deleted scene in particular stood out to her. She described a moment where Cindy was heavily intoxicated and sitting inside her truck before giving herself a strange pep talk. Faris recalled, “There was a moment that I’m getting just wasted, just so drunk, and then I look, I’m in my truck of course, and I look into the rearview mirror, and I say ‘Be best Cindy Campbell be best.’ That didn’t make it, but I liked my little wink there.”

Even though the joke was removed, Faris appears to have enjoyed the freedom that came with returning to the franchise. She suggested that the over-the-top nature of the series allows performers to take creative risks that would not work in most other movies.

Reflecting on the comedy style of the franchise, she said, “I’m in a movie that is truly like the most offensive movie ever made and I’m the lead of it and I participate in offensive ideas. I think I can kind of do anything. It liberated me.”

The Wayans Return: ‘Scary Movie 6’ Pulls Off the Most Insane Box Office Comeback in Years

The new film marks Faris’ return to the franchise after many years away. Scary Movie reunites several familiar faces, including Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Regina Hall, and Faris herself. The story follows Cindy Campbell, Ray Wilkins, Brenda Meeks, and Shorty Meeks as they come together once again after the return of a masked killer connected to the events of the original film.

The project is especially significant because it brings the Wayans family back to the franchise for the first time since Scary Movie 2. Their departure after the second film was the result of creative disagreements, making this reunion one of the biggest talking points surrounding the sequel.

Directed by Michael Tiddes and written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez, the movie was released in U.S. theaters on June 5.

Critical reaction has largely followed the pattern of previous entries in the series. Reviews have been mixed to negative, but audiences have still shown strong interest. The film has already earned more than 100 million dollars worldwide against a reported budget of around 30 million dollars, making it a commercial success despite the critical response.

For fans of the franchise, Faris’ comments offer a glimpse into the kind of jokes and ideas that were considered during production. While some of the more controversial material never made it into theaters, it is clear that the creative team explored plenty of outrageous directions before settling on the final cut.
