Sydney Sweeney has shared new comments about the ending of Euphoria and what the cast knew about Rue’s story ahead of time. Her remarks come from a recent interview with Variety, where she discussed her role as Cassie Howard and reflected on the show’s final season.

In the interview, Sweeney explained that the cast did not always receive full scripts for the series. Instead, they were often given only their own scenes, which meant they did not see the full picture of how the story would unfold until much later.

She also revealed that there was already awareness among the cast that Rue’s storyline would end in a major way. Rue, played by Zendaya, has been one of the central characters in the series since it began. Sweeney said the cast had known about this direction for a long time, even if they did not know all the details.

She said, “We didn’t get all the scripts. We were only given our specific scenes. We all knew that Rue was going to get killed off — we knew that for a long, long time — but no idea how, when it was going to happen.”

Sweeney explained that because of this limited access to the full story, even the actors were sometimes surprised when they finally watched the finished episodes. She said that seeing the ending play out felt like a viewer experience for her as well, since she was not fully aware of how everything would connect.

She described watching Rue’s final moments as emotional and unexpected. Even though she knew about the general direction of the storyline, she still reacted strongly when she saw it on screen. She said, “So when I was watching it with everybody else, it was actually the first time that I even uncovered what was going to happen. I was crying.”

Euphoria, created by Sam Levinson for HBO, has been known for its intense storytelling and emotional character arcs. The series follows a group of teenagers dealing with addiction, relationships, trauma, and identity. Rue, played by Zendaya, is at the center of much of the show’s emotional weight, and her journey has shaped the tone of the series from the beginning.

Sweeney’s comments highlight how the production process of Euphoria often keeps cast members in the dark about larger story developments. This approach has created a sense of surprise not only for audiences but sometimes for the actors themselves when they finally see the finished episodes.

The actress also reflected on the experience of growing up with the show and being part of its long production timeline. She joined the series at a young age and has spent years returning to the role of Cassie, while watching the story evolve around her.

Her remarks about Rue’s storyline also show how closely the cast followed the show’s impact, even when they were not directly involved in certain plotlines. Despite not always knowing full details, Sweeney said she remained emotionally connected to the story and the characters as a whole.

Now that Euphoria has reached its final season, Sweeney’s comments give a small glimpse into how the cast experienced the show behind the scenes, especially when it came to major turning points like Rue’s fate.
