2026’s Biggest Horror Hit Reportedly Gets a Digital Release Date
A new rumor about the horror hit Obsession is spreading online, suggesting that the film may soon arrive on digital platforms. The claim first appeared on social media from an account called The Beyond Reporter, which posted that the movie could be available digitally on June 25. However, the information has not been confirmed by the studio or official distributors.
The post quickly gained attention from fans of the film, although it remains unverified at this stage. No official announcement has been made by Focus Features or any related production company.
Obsession is a 2025 American supernatural psychological horror film written, directed, and edited by Curry Barker. The film follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a music store employee who discovers a supernatural toy that can grant wishes. When he uses it to make his friend Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, fall in love with him, things quickly spiral into disturbing and dangerous consequences.
The supporting cast includes Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter, with Barker also appearing in a voice role. The film combines psychological horror with supernatural elements, focusing on obsession, control, and unintended consequences.
The project has an unusual production history. Barker, who previously worked as a YouTube sketch comedian, gained attention after releasing a short horror film called The Chair on his channel in 2023. That project led to industry interest and eventually a feature film opportunity. Instead of adapting The Chair, Barker pitched Obsession, a separate idea inspired in part by an episode of The Simpsons, according to earlier production reports.
The film was shot in Los Angeles in October 2024 on a reported budget of $750,000. It became Barker’s second feature film after Milk & Serial (2024), and his first wide theatrical release.

Obsession premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 5, 2025. After its debut, Focus Features acquired distribution rights in a deal reported to be between $14 million and $15 million, marking one of the largest acquisitions for a genre film at the festival. Jason Blum also joined the project as an executive producer through Blumhouse Productions.
The film was later released in U.S. theaters on May 15. It went on to become a major success both critically and commercially. According to box office reports, Obsession has earned approximately $238.7 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in Focus Features’ history and one of the top ten highest-grossing films of 2026.
Despite its strong theatrical run, the rumored digital release date has not been confirmed. Industry sources have not provided official timing for when the film will move to streaming or digital rental platforms.
For now, fans will have to wait for confirmation from the studio. While online reports suggest a June 25 digital release may be coming, there is still no official announcement to support that claim.
