Netflix has officially renewed The Four Seasons for a third season, continuing its story about friendship, love, and the messy reality of middle-aged relationships.

The update was announced by Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Scripted Series for the U.S. and Canada, during the BANFF World Media Festival on Monday morning, according to Netflix and event coverage.

The comedy series was created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield. It follows a group of longtime friends who meet up across different vacations and life events, with each season split into four parts representing spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Season 3 will follow the same structure as the previous two seasons. It will include eight episodes, broken into four two-episode arcs. Each arc will focus on a different seasonal reunion and the changing dynamics within the friend group.

The main cast is expected to return, including Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, Erika Henningsen, and Colman Domingo. Erika Henningsen, who had a smaller role toward the end of Season 2, will return as a full series regular in the new season.

One of the biggest story threads heading into Season 3 involves David Tennant’s character, Gianpiero, who appeared in a surprise cameo in the Season 2 finale. He plays a neighbor in Italy and may become a possible love interest for Anne, played by Kerri Kenney-Silver. However, his full involvement in Season 3 has not yet been confirmed.

Co-creators Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield shared a short statement about the renewal, saying, “We are thrilled to be able to bring a third season of The Four Seasons to life. Thank you to everyone who watched. Middle-aged people, LFG!”

The series is based on the 1981 film of the same name by Alan Alda. Since its debut, the Netflix version has built a steady audience and strong critical response. Season 1 launched in May 2025 and quickly became a major hit, reaching 24.4 million views in its first two weeks and hitting No. 1 on Netflix’s English TV chart.

Season 2, which premiered more recently, saw a noticeable drop in viewership. It debuted at No. 3 on the Netflix chart with 4.4 million views in its first week, which was down significantly from Season 1. While it gained a small increase in its second week, overall numbers remained lower than the first season.

Even with the drop in views, the show continues to perform well critically. Season 2 earned a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, higher than Season 1’s 78%. Critics have continued to highlight the chemistry between the cast and the mix of humor and emotional storytelling.

Netflix executives also praised the series’ tone and audience connection. Tracey Pakosta, Netflix VP of U.S. Comedy, said, “It’s been a joy watching the chaotic, beautiful journey of these lifelong friends. Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield have a magical way of blending heart and sharp humor, making us feel like part of the inner circle.”

Production details for Season 3 have not yet been revealed, but with the core cast returning and new storylines expected to expand the group’s evolving relationships, Netflix is clearly continuing to invest in the show’s long-term future.
