‘X-Men ’97’ Just Confirmed Its Future, And It’s Bigger Than Anyone Expected

A newly released first look clip from Rotten Tomatoes confirms that ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 will premiere July 1 on Disney Plus, and the footage puts Cyclops front and center. The clip highlights the character in a bold animated sequence, signaling that Scott Summers will once again play a major role as the team navigates a new set of threats.

According to the official synopsis from Disney Plus, Season 2 continues with the heroic mutant team divided and thrown across different eras in time as they struggle to find their way back home. Meanwhile, back in the 1990s, suspicious foes and new strains of mutant intolerance are on the rise in the wake of the X-Men’s absence.

The new season will run for nine episodes and brings back the core voice cast that helped make the first season such a hit. Ross Marquand returns as Professor X, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue, and George Buza as Beast.

The trailer itself has already generated plenty of buzz online, teasing major story threads involving time travel and the looming threat of Apocalypse. The footage reportedly shows the two splintered X-Men teams trapped in different time periods tied to the ancient mutant villain, with one team encountering him at the dawn of his reign and the other facing him at the height of his power.

Production credits confirm the series remains executive-produced by Brad Winderbaum and Kevin Feige, with the same creative teams from Season 1 returning to write and direct. The series has already been renewed for a third season, a strong vote of confidence from Disney+ even before Season 2 has aired.

For longtime fans of the original 1990s series, the Cyclops-focused footage feels especially significant, since the character has always been central to the show’s themes of leadership and sacrifice. With Charles Xavier gone and the team scattered across timelines, Cyclops once again finds himself at the heart of the action as the mutants fight to find their way home.

With ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 now just weeks away from its Disney Plus debut, excitement among fans continues to build across social media. What do you think this new Cyclops focused footage means for the season ahead, share your thoughts in the comments.
