Tom Holland has revealed who he believes could carry the Spider-Man legacy in the future, and his answer has fans talking. While the actor is not ready to leave the role anytime soon, he recently shared his thoughts on what comes next for the beloved superhero and who could eventually take over the spotlight.

According to an interview with Esquire, Holland said he would be happy to help introduce the next generation of Spider-Man characters when the time comes and he had an actor in mind to replace him.

“Owen Cooper would be awesome. Obviously he’s super-talented and the talk of the town right now.”

Owen Patrick Cooper is an English actor who became internationally known for his first major role as Jamie Miller in the Netflix miniseries Adolescence (2025). His performance earned widespread praise and several major awards, including a Primetime Emmy, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award. Cooper made history as the youngest male winner of a Primetime Emmy and the youngest recipient of several other prestigious acting awards.

Holland previously explained that he would love to be involved in helping a new hero step into the role, much like Robert Downey Jr. helped guide him when he first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man. Downey famously played Iron Man and became an important mentor figure both on and off screen during Holland’s early years in Marvel.

“For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” Holland said. “Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what Robert Downey Jr. did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.”

Among the names he mentioned, Miles Morales immediately stood out to many fans. The character has become one of the most popular heroes in the Spider-Man world thanks to Marvel Comics and the successful animated Spider-Verse films. Holland has previously expressed interest in seeing Miles become a major part of the live-action Marvel universe one day.

The comments come as Holland prepares for the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth standalone Spider-Man film starring the British actor. After nearly a decade playing Peter Parker, Holland remains deeply connected to the character, but he has also started thinking about the future of the franchise and how it can continue beyond his version of Spider-Man.

Although some fans have wondered whether Holland is preparing to leave the role soon, his recent comments suggest that is not the case. In fact, he has made it clear that he still loves playing Spider-Man and would happily continue as long as audiences and Marvel want him around. At the same time, he understands that every superhero story eventually moves forward.

Holland’s journey as Spider-Man began in 2016 when he made his debut as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. Since then, he has become one of the most successful actors ever to wear the famous red-and-blue suit, starring in multiple Marvel blockbusters and helping the franchise earn billions at the global box office.

For now, Holland remains Marvel’s Spider-Man. But when the day eventually comes for someone new to take over, it is clear that he hopes to play a role in passing the torch. And based on his latest comments, characters like Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman are at the top of his list for the future of the Spider-Man universe.
