‘Breaking Bad’ Star Aaron Paul Cast in DCU’s ‘Clayface’ Movie
Aaron Paul has joined DC Studios’ upcoming film “Clayface” in a minor role, adding another high-profile name to the growing cast of the DC Universe project.
Aaron Paul, widely known for his breakout role in “Breaking Bad,” has recently been active in genre television and film. His recent and upcoming work includes appearances in “Westworld,” “Invincible,” and the third season of “Fallout.” “Clayface” marks another step into large-scale franchise filmmaking for the actor, and one of his most notable film roles since “Mission: Impossible III.”
Feature First reports that Paul will appear alongside Tom Rhys Harries, Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan. His role in the film is described as brief and limited in scope, rather than a central character. Even so, his casting adds additional attention to a project that is still keeping much of its story and character details tightly under wraps.
The film is directed by James Watkins and is part of DC Studios’ new cinematic direction under the “Gods & Monsters” chapter. Producers on the project include Matt Reeves, James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Lynn Harris, marking it as a major collaborative effort within the studio’s expanding universe.
“Clayface” follows the story of Matt Hagen, an actor whose life is destroyed after a violent attack leaves him disfigured. He later undergoes an experimental treatment that transforms him into a shapeshifting, unstable creature. The story focuses on his psychological and physical breakdown as he loses control of both his body and identity.
The film’s tone has been described as body horror, with strong focus on transformation, trauma, and identity loss. The official synopsis reads: “Clayface tells the terrifying descent into hell of a promising Hollywood actor who has become a monster driven by revenge. An intense story that explores the loss of identity and humanity, the ravages of toxic love and the dark side of scientific ambition.”
This approach places “Clayface” in a darker corner of the DC Universe, especially compared to more traditional superhero stories. The film is also notable for being one of the earliest major horror-leaning entries in the new DCU slate.
Despite its scheduled release on October 23, details about the film remain limited. The cast is still relatively small, and much of the plot is being kept secret. The only major glimpse so far has come from an early trailer released in April, which offered little narrative detail but confirmed the film’s unsettling tone.
With Aaron Paul now added to the lineup, “Clayface” continues to build momentum as one of the more unusual and genre-driven projects in DC Studios’ upcoming slate.
