Gordon Cormier Reveals If Netflix’s Avatar Universe Could Continue With a Live-Action ‘Legend of Korra’
Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender may be heading toward its final season, but the world of Avatar could still have a future in live action. One of the show’s stars, Gordon Cormier, has revealed that he would be interested in returning for a possible live-action adaptation of The Legend of Korra.
Cormier currently plays Aang in Netflix’s live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series is preparing to return for season 2, which will continue Aang’s journey as he searches for an earthbending teacher while facing the growing threat of the Fire Nation.
Ahead of the new season, ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns spoke with Cormier about the future of the franchise. During the interview, the actor was asked if he would consider coming back for a live-action version of The Legend of Korra after Avatar: The Last Airbender finishes its planned three-season run.
Cormier joked about the idea, especially because playing Aang requires him to keep his character’s signature bald look. “They’ll be bald-capping me, for sure,” Cormier said, joking about not wanting to shave his head again.
However, the actor made it clear that he would not hesitate to join another Avatar project if the opportunity came up. He explained that he trusts the creative team behind the show and would be open to seeing where the story goes.
“There’s no doubt. I don’t think I could turn it down,” Cormier said, adding that he would still want to “read the scripts” and “see what we’re doing” before committing.
Cormier also shared his excitement about exploring more stories from the Avatar universe. He mentioned that adapting comic book storylines could be interesting, especially stories that explore what happened after the original animated series.
“I think that the comic book arcs would be dope. If we’re going to go find Zuko’s mom, and all that stuff, or even if they were to do their own thing, honestly, it would be cool,” the actor said.
The Legend of Korra originally premiered in 2012 as a follow-up to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the animated series takes place around 70 years after Aang’s story and follows Korra, the next Avatar after him.
The show ran for four seasons and was praised for expanding the Avatar world with new characters, a different setting, and more mature themes. Since then, fans have continued asking for more stories from the franchise.

There are already other Avatar projects in development, including Avatar: Seven Havens, an animated series following the next Avatar after Korra, and Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, which will focus on an older version of Aang.
A live-action Legend of Korra series from Netflix is still only a possibility. Much will depend on how successful the remaining seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender are on the streaming platform. The first season performed well in terms of viewership, but it received mixed reactions from critics and fans.
If the next seasons improve and attract more viewers, Netflix could decide that the Avatar universe still has plenty of stories left to tell. For now, Cormier appears ready to continue the journey if the opportunity comes.
