Zendaya and Tom Holland are right in the middle of one of the most wholesome press tours in recent memory.

The newly confirmed married couple is currently traveling the world to promote their upcoming film ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, popping up in cities like Madrid, Amsterdam, Rome, and Berlin, and every single appearance has been turning into a moment the internet cannot stop talking about.

The latest happened at a fan event in Berlin, where Zendaya got asked about her first date. Most people would probably expect a fairly standard answer from a movie star in full promotion mode.

What nobody expected was for the ‘Euphoria’ actress to casually drop that her first-ever date, back when she was around 16, was a trip to the cinema to watch one of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man films. The irony of saying that out loud, in front of her now-husband who plays the exact same character, was apparently not lost on anyone in the room.

Tom Holland’s reaction, captured on video and shared widely online by Culture Crave and others, was instant. He hit her with a deadpan “How dare you,” which set the whole room off. Zendaya, clearly enjoying every second of it, responded with “I know, sorry, but it all worked out,” which is honestly one of the most accurate things anyone has ever said. She went on a date to watch her husband’s predecessor play Spider-Man, and now she is married to Spider-Man. It really did work out.

The whole exchange went viral almost immediately, and it is easy to see why.

It also lands so well because of the bigger context around their relationship right now. Holland confirmed their marriage in an interview with Esquire just days before the Berlin event.

When the magazine asked if he had to reach out to family members to clarify that the AI-generated wedding photos circulating online were fake, he paused and said, “No, because they were all there.” Then he immediately shut down any follow-up by adding, “That’s all you’ll get on that.” The confirmation ended months of speculation that had been swirling ever since Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach told a reporter at the Actor Awards back in March that the wedding had “already happened.”

Holland did open up a little more in that same Esquire piece about what the relationship actually means to him. “Our business can present very stressful situations and it’s really nice to have a bedrock of a relationship that will stand the test of time,” he said. “We can support each other in ways that only we can, because only we understand really what it’s like to live this life. So, for me, I found my person. She’s my best friend, and I’m the happiest I ever have been when I’m with her, but I also have never felt so supported and safe, ever. Period.”

The two have a genuinely packed summer ahead of them. They both appear in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which opens on July 17, and then ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ follows on July 31. The fact that they are hitting press tours together as a now officially confirmed married couple, while telling stories about first dates at competing Spider-Man movies, is the kind of thing that could only happen to these two. Andrew Garfield, wherever he is right now, probably deserves at least a thank-you note.
