For years, fans of the original Netflix run of ‘Daredevil’ have held out hope for one reunion that kept eluding them. While the Man Without Fear himself returned in ‘Born Again’, and the revivals of Punisher, Karen Page, and Foggy Nelson followed in kind, one pivotal character remained conspicuously absent.

Elektra Natchios, the deadly assassin and on-again, off-again love of Matt Murdock’s life, had been stuck in limbo since her ambiguous fate at the end of ‘The Defenders’. That long wait appears to finally be over.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 is currently in production in New York City, and set photos circulating online appear to show Elodie Yung back in the role of Elektra, wielding her signature weapons and cutting a mysterious figure in a dark overcoat.

Marvel Studios has not issued an official statement confirming her involvement, but the images have sent the fandom into a frenzy, with fan accounts declaring the return with considerable enthusiasm across social media.

The timing of this leak carries real weight for anyone who has been tracking the trajectory of ‘Born Again’. Season 3 set photos had already confirmed that Mike Colter and Finn Jones would be returning as Luke Cage and Danny Rand, and Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones was set to reprise her role after her featured appearance in Season 2. That means the Defenders are all but reassembled, and the missing piece has always been Elektra.

Élodie Yung’s Elektra Rumored to Return in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’—Scenes Already Filmed

The last time audiences saw Yung’s Elektra, she was kissing Daredevil before a building collapsed on them in the climax of ‘The Defenders’.

Her body was never recovered, and the ambiguity of her survival has fueled speculation ever since. The character had a complicated arc in the Netflix era, dying and being resurrected by The Hand as their ultimate weapon, a storyline that many fans felt undersold what Yung was capable of in the role. A return in the MCU-proper era of ‘Born Again’ would represent a genuine second chance for the character.

Unverified rumors had previously surfaced suggesting Yung might be replaced as Elektra for ‘Born Again’, but no concrete details were ever announced, and those claims never materialized into anything official. What did materialize, however, was a slow and steady drumbeat of hints from Yung herself.

Earlier this year, she posted gym workout videos that sent fans into a tailspin of speculation, and she added a message acknowledging the excitement, saying, “Ooooh You guys really want my Elektra back. I love it.” She stopped short of confirming anything, but the energy she brought to that response was telling.

The production side had also been quietly signaling that Elektra was very much on the table. Showrunner Dario Scardapane hinted that both Elektra and Colleen Wing might factor into Season 3’s storyline, telling reporters that the writers’ room maintains a wish list of characters drawn from iconic comic book runs, and that Elektra was among the names on it. His framing of the show as rooted in the Frank Miller tradition, a world of assassins, moral complexity, and brutal street-level drama, made Elektra’s inclusion feel almost inevitable in retrospect.

Yung herself had previously expressed enthusiasm for a return, saying in a prior interview, “Oh, absolutely. That was one of the greatest characters that I had to play. We’ll see. If they call me, I will respond for sure. It’s just so much fun.” That willingness, combined with her free schedule following the conclusion of ‘The Cleaning Lady’, made the dots relatively easy to connect.

Production on Season 3 began in March, with showrunner Dario Scardapane confirming to Entertainment Weekly that filming is expected to wrap in early July, placing the production right around its halfway point now. That window aligns with Yung appearing on set, suggesting her involvement is not a minor cameo but potentially a meaningful arc in what is already shaping up to be the most ambitious chapter of ‘Born Again’ yet.

With The Hand returning in the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ trailer and Season 3 already confirmed to bring back multiple Defenders, the question of where Elektra fits into this larger web of ninja intrigue and street-level chaos is genuinely compelling. Whether she returns as an ally, an antagonist, or something far more complicated, as she has always tended to be with Matt Murdock, the stage could not be more perfectly set.
