First Trailer for Georgia Oakley’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ Teases a Stunning New Jane Austen Adaptation
The first trailer for the upcoming Sense and Sensibility movie has officially been released, giving fans their first look at Georgia Oakley’s new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel. The period romantic drama brings a fresh cast and a new vision to the famous story of love, family, and social expectations.
Directed by Georgia Oakley, the film is based on Austen’s 1811 novel and features a screenplay written by Diana Reid. The story follows the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, as they deal with romance, heartbreak, and the challenges of life after their family’s financial situation changes.
Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Elinor Dashwood, while Esmé Creed-Miles plays her younger sister Marianne. The two characters have very different views on love, with Elinor being more careful and practical while Marianne follows her emotions and believes strongly in passion.
The new movie features a strong ensemble cast that also includes Caitríona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood, Frank Dillane as John Willoughby, George MacKay as Edward Ferrars, Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon, Fiona Shaw as Mrs. Jennings, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach as Margaret Dashwood.
The first trailer gives viewers a glimpse at the film’s elegant costumes, historical settings, and emotional drama. It highlights the complicated relationships at the center of Austen’s story while introducing a new generation of actors taking on these famous characters.
The project was first announced in 2025, when it was revealed that Working Title Films and Focus Features were developing a new adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. Georgia Oakley was selected to direct the movie from Diana Reid’s script, with producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title, along with India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett of Kiddo Films.
Production began in the United Kingdom in July 2025. According to production details, Arnaud Potier serves as cinematographer, while Izabella Curry handles editing duties.
Sense and Sensibility is one of Jane Austen’s most famous works and has been adapted several times over the years. The story follows the emotional journey of the Dashwood sisters as they search for happiness while facing the rules and pressures of 19th-century society.
This new version appears to focus on both the romance and the deeper family relationships that made Austen’s novel a classic. The trailer suggests that the film will balance the humor, emotion, and social commentary that fans expect from the original story.
The movie will arrive in theaters first in the United Kingdom on September 25, before opening in the United States on October 16, 2026.
With a talented cast, a respected creative team, and the first trailer now available, Georgia Oakley’s Sense and Sensibility is already becoming one of the most anticipated period dramas of 2026.
