When ‘Ready or Not’ landed in 2019, nobody quite anticipated how fiercely its blood-soaked, darkly comedic take on class satire would embed itself in horror culture. The film went on to earn a devoted cult following, which made the eventual greenlight for a sequel feel less like a Hollywood cash grab and more like a long-overdue reunion. Director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the Radio Silence team behind the original, were always the ones fans wanted back in the driver’s seat, and that is precisely what happened.

‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ premiered at the South by Southwest Film and TV Festival on March 13, before hitting theaters across the United States on March 20, distributed once again by Searchlight Pictures. The sequel picks up immediately after the events of its predecessor, with Samara Weaving returning as Grace MacCaullay, this time forced to protect her estranged younger sister Faith, played by Kathryn Newton, while being hunted by four rival elite families competing for a seat of ultimate world power.

Now, fans who missed the theatrical run have their moment. According to Cosmic Marvel on X, ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ is set to arrive on Hulu and Disney+ on July 2. As a Searchlight Pictures production, a Disney subsidiary, its placement on those platforms was always expected, and the July date lands at roughly the 100-day mark after the theatrical debut. The official poster confirmed in the announcement lists the date alongside both streaming platforms, making this the film’s first wide home viewing window.

The sequel earned a 74% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from over 200 critics, with the site’s consensus crediting Samara Weaving’s ferocious commitment to the role for helping the film dodge the sequel curse. Financially, the film grossed roughly $42.9 million worldwide against a $14 million production budget, making it a profitable, if modestly performing, theatrical run.

The opening weekend brought stiff competition from the Ryan Gosling blockbuster ‘Project Hail Mary’, which likely pulled younger audiences away during that first frame.

The ensemble surrounding Weaving is one of the film’s most talked-about selling points. Joining her are Sarah Michelle Gellar as Ursula Danforth, Elijah Wood as a mysterious representative of Le Bail known only as the Lawyer, Shawn Hatosy as Titus Danforth, and legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg as the Danforth family patriarch.

Speaking to Moviefone, Weaving summed up what newcomers should expect with typical brevity: “Just buckle up. Get ready. It’s going to get weird.”

Both Weaving and Newton described the production as the bloodiest of their respective careers, with Newton noting it takes the cake even over her goop-heavy work in ‘Abigail’. The score, composed by Sven Faulconer in what he described as a baroque-meets-slaughter style, incorporates a viola da gamba to reflect the expanded mythology of the film’s High Council, adding an unsettling layer of grandeur to the carnage.

For those who loved the original and have been patiently waiting to revisit Grace’s nightmare from their couch, July 2 now has a very specific kind of chaos attached to it. Whether you think this sequel surpasses the original or falls just short of that lightning-in-a-bottle first film is exactly the debate worth having in the comments.
