Fans of The Office universe will not have to wait much longer for another trip into the world of workplace chaos. Peacock has officially announced that Season 2 of The Paper will premiere on September 9, bringing back the comedy series about a struggling newspaper and the unusual people trying to keep it alive.

The series comes from Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, who serve as creators, writers and executive producers.

While The Paper is connected to The Office, the show takes the story in a new direction. Instead of following the employees of Dunder Mifflin, the series focuses on the staff of a small Ohio newspaper as they deal with the challenges of keeping local journalism alive.

The connection to the original series remains through the documentary crew that fans remember from The Office. According to Peacock’s official description, “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch in the Emmy Award-winning series The Office find a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.”

Season 1 introduced viewers to the newspaper employees and their daily struggles, mixing workplace comedy with the same documentary-style humor that made The Office popular. The second season will continue exploring the relationships, problems and unexpected situations inside the newsroom.

The returning cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Tim Key, Ramona Young, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., Alex Edelman and Oscar Nuñez.

Nuñez’s involvement is especially interesting for fans of The Office, as he played Oscar Martinez in the original series. His appearance helps maintain the connection between the two shows while The Paper builds its own identity.

Peacock also revealed some details about what viewers can expect when Season 2 arrives. The new episodes will follow Ned as he searches for a major journalistic mission after the newspaper wins several Ohio Journalism Awards. His next move could create problems for the entire publication.

The official season description from Peacock says, “In Season 2 of The Paper, after sweeping the Ohio Journalism Awards, Ned searches for a journalistic crusade, coming for a local private club and jeopardizing the paper, while he and Mare try to figure out their attraction, Esmeralda struggles to find her place, and the staff gradually mature as reporters.”

The upcoming season will continue focusing on the personal and professional lives of the newspaper team. From workplace romances to career struggles, the series looks to expand the stories of its characters while keeping the awkward humor that fans expect from a show connected to The Office.

Greg Daniels has a long history with workplace comedy. He was one of the key creative forces behind The Office, helping turn the American adaptation into one of the most popular sitcoms of the 2000s and 2010s. With The Paper, Daniels and Koman are trying to capture a similar feeling while creating a completely new workplace environment.

Season 2 will arrive on Peacock on September 9, giving fans another chance to return to the strange and often chaotic world of The Paper.
