Netflix is bringing a new Korean supernatural mystery to viewers this summer with The East Palace, a period drama that mixes royal secrets, dark spirits and a decades-old curse.

The streaming platform has released the main trailer and posters for the series, which will premiere worldwide on July 17. The show stars Nam Joo-hyuk, Roh Yoon-seo and Cho Seung-woo as characters caught in the middle of a dangerous mystery inside a haunted royal palace.

The story takes place between the world of humans and a dark spirit dimension known as the Realm of Gwi. The main character, Gu-cheon, played by Nam Joo-hyuk, has the rare ability to travel between both worlds. His unusual power brings him to the attention of the king, who needs his help to solve a terrifying problem threatening the palace.

According to Netflix, the king has been dealing with a mysterious curse for 30 years. When strange events begin happening again, he secretly orders Gu-cheon to investigate. He is joined by Saeng-gang, a court lady played by Roh Yoon-seo, who has the ability to hear the voices of spirits.

Together, Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang must uncover the truth behind the curse while facing dangerous supernatural forces. Their investigation reveals hidden secrets connected to the royal family, slowly exposing the dark history that has been buried for decades.

The newly released trailer gives fans a first look at the eerie atmosphere of the series. The palace appears grand and beautiful, but something feels wrong beneath the surface. A terrifying spirit warns the king that it will destroy the royal bloodline, forcing him to bring Gu-cheon into the palace and begin a secret mission.

The series is directed by Choi Jung-kyu, known for works including The Devil Judge and Children of Nobody. The screenplay comes from writers Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won, who previously worked on Bulgasal: Immortal Souls and The Guest.

Director Choi Jung-kyu also praised the cast and their performances. Speaking about Nam Joo-hyuk, he said, “From the first time I saw Nam Joo-hyuk, I was convinced he was the one who would choose to step into the Realm of Gwi and face his destiny.”

He also shared his thoughts on Roh Yoon-seo, saying, “I was sure her natural charm and strengths aligned perfectly with the role of Saeng-gang. While working with her, I realized she is a truly bold actress.”
