Spider-Man’s Joe Quesada Teases a ‘One More Day’ Sequel – But With a Catch
Joe Quesada is not closing the door on returning to one of Spider-Man’s most debated storylines, but fans hoping for a major change may want to lower their expectations.
The former Marvel editor-in-chief and co-creator of the controversial One More Day storyline revealed that he still has an idea for a third chapter that would continue the story, but he made it clear that it would not undo the decision that erased Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson’s marriage from Marvel’s main timeline.
Quesada discussed the possible follow-up during a panel at Megacon 2026. When asked if he could reveal what his planned third One More Day story would be, he explained that he was keeping the details private because he may still want to tell it one day.
“No, in case I decide to tell it,” Quesada said. “Where Spider-Man’s current continuity is right now, I don’t know if it’s the right spot to tell it, but there is a story in there.”
The idea would serve as another continuation of the storyline that began with One More Day in 2007. The original story, written by J. Michael Straczynski and co-written and illustrated by Quesada, changed Spider-Man’s history by having Peter make a deal that removed his marriage to MJ from existence. The event became one of the most talked-about Spider-Man stories ever, with fans continuing to debate the decision years later.
The story was followed by One Moment in Time in 2010, which was also written by Quesada. That sequel explored what happened between Peter and MJ after the marriage was erased and explained how Spider-Man’s secret identity was restored following the events of Civil War.
For years, Quesada has hinted that he had plans for a third story that would complete the trilogy. However, despite leaving Marvel’s staff in 2022, he has yet to officially move forward with the project.
According to Quesada, though, the first two stories already accomplished what they were meant to do.
“I don’t know when I’ll be able to get to it, but Spider-Man is fine. It doesn’t need a third story. One More Day and One Moment in Time did what it was supposed to do.”
Quesada also directly addressed one of the biggest questions fans would have about a possible sequel. He confirmed that the story would not end with Peter Parker and Mary Jane getting married again.
“And no, they don’t get back together and get married,” Quesada added.
While many readers have criticized One More Day since its release, Quesada believes the online reaction does not fully represent how readers actually feel about the story. He explained that he has met many fans who have told him the storyline had a meaningful impact on their lives.
“I feel like it’s a hotly debated story amongst 20 people under 100 pseudonyms over the internet, because literally just before coming back down here, I was talking to a fan for 15 minutes who told me how that story changed his life and helped him through a breakup with this girl,” Quesada said.
He also explained that some fans are hesitant to admit they enjoyed the story because of the intense online criticism surrounding it.
“First of all, they look over their shoulder to see if anyone from the internet is watching, and they go, [whispers] I really like that story.”
Should Joe Quesada Make a Third 'One More Day' Story?
With 2027 marking the 20th anniversary of One More Day and the 40th anniversary of Spider-Man and MJ’s marriage in the comics, fans may continue to wonder if Quesada will eventually return to finish the trilogy. For now, it appears any future chapter would explore the consequences of that controversial decision rather than reverse it.
