‘The Odyssey’ Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed: See What Critics Are Saying About Nolan’s Latest Blockbuster
Christopher Nolan’s latest film, ‘The Odyssey’, has finally arrived in front of critics, and the early reactions suggest that the filmmaker may have delivered one of the biggest movies of his career. The epic fantasy adventure, based on Homer’s ancient Greek poem, is already receiving strong praise for its scale, visuals, performances, and ambitious storytelling.
The film currently follows Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he faces legendary creatures and challenges from Greek mythology while trying to reunite with his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway. The huge ensemble cast also includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, and Charlize Theron.

‘The Odyssey’ represents one of Nolan’s biggest filmmaking challenges yet. The director shot the entire movie using IMAX 70mm cameras, making it the first feature film to be captured entirely in that format. With a reported budget of around $250 million, the movie ranks among the most expensive productions Nolan has ever made.
Early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes show that critics are largely impressed, with many calling the film a massive cinematic achievement. Matt Neglia from Next Best Picture gave the movie a 9/10 score, praising its enormous scale and calling it a possible career-defining work for Nolan. He wrote that the film is “as big as stories and movies can possibly get in this day and age” while noting how it connects with themes and ideas from Nolan’s previous films.
Aaron Neuwirth from We Live Entertainment also gave the movie a positive review, highlighting how Nolan balances blockbuster entertainment with thoughtful choices in casting, themes, and visual effects. He noted that despite its huge ambitions, the film still works as a crowd-pleasing adventure.
Louisa Moore from Screen Zealots was even more enthusiastic, describing the movie as “rich, immersive, visually astonishing, emotionally devastating, and endlessly entertaining.” She praised the way Nolan combines classic Hollywood adventure with a modern style, calling it a true cinematic experience.
Other critics pointed out some weaknesses despite the overall positive response. Edward Douglas from The Weekend Warrior gave the film a 6/10 rating, criticizing the pacing, darker scenes, and sound mix. He argued that some technical choices made parts of the movie harder to follow.
Alexander Zalben from Comic Book Club praised the cast and visuals but noted that some dialogue felt awkward at times. Meanwhile, Allison Rose from FlickDirect gave the film 4.5/5 stars, calling it “epic, beautifully crafted Nolan storytelling,” while adding that the movie could have benefited from a shorter runtime.
Nate Adams from The Only Critic gave the film an A grade, calling it “a spectacular achievement” and praising its celebration of cinema and storytelling.
With early reviews leaning heavily positive, ‘The Odyssey’ appears to be another major event movie from Nolan. While some critics have raised concerns about pacing and accessibility, most agree that the director has created something enormous, visually impressive, and unlike anything else currently in theaters.
As audiences prepare to experience the film in IMAX and other premium formats, the biggest question now is whether ‘The Odyssey’ will become Nolan’s next defining masterpiece.
