Spider-Man fans have a new reason to celebrate before Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. Disney+ has released a new documentary that looks back at more than 20 years of the web-slinger’s big screen history while also giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at what is coming next.

Titled ‘Generations: The Evolution of Spider-Man’, the 27-minute special brings together the stories of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s versions of the character. The documentary explores how Spider-Man has changed over the years, from the early days of Sam Raimi’s trilogy to Garfield’s time as the hero and Holland’s current run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to Disney+, the documentary celebrates “Three Peters. Two decades. One legendary hero.” It takes fans through the different Spider-Man suits, stunts and performances that helped define each version of Peter Parker. The special also includes an exclusive preview of the next chapter with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ director Destin Daniel Cretton, known for directing ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ and working on ‘Wonder Man’.

While the documentary looks back at the character’s history, it also focuses heavily on Holland’s upcoming fourth solo Spider-Man movie. Fans get new behind-the-scenes footage from the production, including a closer look at Holland’s updated Spider-Man suit and the work that goes into making the costume ready for action scenes.

One behind-the-scenes moment shows Holland wearing the Spider-Man suit with special padding and equipment designed to help the mask keep its shape during filming. Another scene shows Holland as Peter Parker wearing casual clothes while walking through New York and talking on his phone, offering a glimpse at the more personal side of the character.

The documentary also features footage connected to scenes teased in the trailers for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. One shot shows Peter sitting alone in his apartment while looking at the key to the city that appeared in the first trailer. Another shows Holland filming a scene where Peter is surrounded by webbing while trying to break free.

Fans also get a look at some of the movie’s bigger moments, including Holland filming alongside Mark Ruffalo, who returns as Bruce Banner. The footage appears to show Peter meeting Banner at Empire State University. The documentary also highlights Spider-Man’s fight against Michael Mando’s Scorpion, who returns after first appearing in 2017’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.

This release marks an interesting moment because it is the first time Disney+ and Marvel Studios have heavily promoted a Spider-Man movie before its theatrical release. Since Sony Pictures owns the film rights to Spider-Man while working with Marvel Studios on the MCU movies, the documentary suggests the partnership between the two companies remains strong.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ will continue Peter Parker’s story after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, where the hero was left alone after everyone forgot his identity. The new movie is expected to focus on a more street-level version of Spider-Man, with Holland’s Peter facing new threats in New York.

The film will feature returning characters, including Zendaya’s MJ, Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, and Michael Mando’s Scorpion. While details about the story remain limited, fans are already looking ahead to what could come after the movie, with rumors continuing about future Spider-Man appearances and possible returns from previous versions of the character.

For now, Disney+ is giving fans a chance to revisit Spider-Man’s journey before Holland begins the next part of his story. With three actors carrying the mask across different generations, the documentary shows why Spider-Man remains one of the most popular heroes in movie history.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ swings into theaters on July 31.
