Netflix has another Korean drama that viewers are quickly adding to their watchlists. Notes from the Last Row only premiered on June 26, but it has already built a strong following, with many fans calling it one of the best K-dramas released this year.
According to Netflix, the six-part psychological thriller has been especially popular with audiences in South Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The series mixes mystery, drama, and psychological tension, telling a story that becomes darker with every episode.
The show follows Heo Mun-oh, a university professor who teaches Korean literature. Once, he dreamed of becoming a successful novelist, but years of criticism and disappointment caused him to give up writing. His frustration has also affected the way he sees his students, many of whom he believes lack talent and passion.
Everything changes when he notices Lee Kang, an engineering student who always sits in the last row of his lectures. After reading the young man’s writing, Mun-oh is surprised by his natural talent and mysterious way of thinking. He decides to offer Kang private writing lessons, hoping to help him develop his skills.
As they spend more time together, the professor finds himself becoming deeply invested in his student’s work. Kang’s stories inspire him to think about writing again, but that inspiration slowly turns into an unhealthy obsession. Before long, Mun-oh begins to lose his grip on reality as the line between fiction and real life starts to disappear.
