Charles Melton Addresses Rumors He’s Playing Beast in the ‘X-Men’ Reboot
Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men’ reboot has already become one of the most talked-about projects in Hollywood, and with production details still being kept under wraps, rumors about possible casting choices continue to spread online.
Two actors who have recently found themselves linked to the mutant franchise are Charles Melton and Sophie Thatcher. While neither star has confirmed any involvement with the movie, both have shared their thoughts on the possibility of joining the Marvel universe.
During an interview with The Playlist while promoting Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming film ‘Her Private Hell’, Thatcher was asked about rumors connecting her to the new ‘X-Men’ project. The actress admitted she had not even heard the speculation before being asked.
“I haven’t heard that,” Thatcher said. “I’m open. I’m open to anything. I don’t really know that universe.”
Although Thatcher has mostly worked on smaller, more artistic projects, she explained that she would not automatically reject a major studio movie. For her, the most important things are the story, the people involved, and whether the project has something meaningful to say.
“If I connect with the script and if it’s something — because it’s on such a large scale — if it’s a story that can help us and, like, help an audience, inform an audience, if there’s empathy there, then I’m open,” she explained.
The actress also made it clear that she does not want to limit herself by choosing only independent films or only big productions. “I’m not ridding myself of ‘Well, I can’t do commercial. I can’t do this. I can’t do that.’ I’m incredibly open,” Thatcher added.
Meanwhile, Melton was asked about online speculation that he could take on the role of Beast in Marvel’s reboot. Instead of directly confirming or denying the rumors, the actor gave a playful response.
“Wow. Who’s directing?” Melton joked. The question was interesting because the director of the new ‘X-Men’ film is Jake Schreier, who recently worked with Melton on Netflix’s hit series ‘Beef’. Whether Melton was simply having fun with the question or hinting that conversations have happened remains unclear.
However, his reaction showed that he would be excited about the opportunity. “Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely,” Melton said. “It does interest me for sure. Oh, yeah. That would be cool. What a dream. What a dream.”
Marvel Studios has not announced the full cast for the new ‘X-Men’ movie, but director Jake Schreier is already building a creative team around the project. Michael Lesslie originally worked on the screenplay, while ‘Beef’ creator Lee Sung Jin and writer-producer Joanna Calo have also joined the project to help develop the script.
The reboot is expected to introduce a new generation of mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which brought the X-Men characters back under Marvel’s control.
Would you like to see Charles Melton or Sophie Thatcher join Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ reboot?
For now, both Thatcher and Melton are keeping their options open. Neither actor has officially joined the film, but their comments suggest they would not turn away from the chance to be part of one of Marvel’s most important franchises if the right opportunity comes along.
With fans already speculating about who will play characters like Beast and other classic mutants, the casting process for ‘X-Men’ is likely to remain one of the biggest entertainment topics in the months ahead.
