‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Is Reportedly Adding a Wave of New Cameos in Additional Photography
‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has been building anticipation for months as one of the most ambitious crossover events Marvel Studios has attempted since ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ With a cast already numbering in the dozens, the film represents the Multiverse Saga’s biggest attempt yet to recapture the interconnected magic that defined the franchise’s earliest years.
That magic has been noticeably absent for much of Phase 4 through 6, with characters largely staying siloed within their own corners of the MCU rather than crossing paths the way Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Phil Coulson once did throughout the Infinity Saga. Marvel Studios appears determined to correct that with ‘Doomsday,’ and recent reporting suggests the film’s additional photography is playing a big role in making that happen.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently undergoing further filming, with numerous cameos reportedly being added to the movie during this stage of production. The added footage builds on a pattern that’s defined the film’s post-wrap process for months, as Marvel continues shaping the story well after principal photography officially ended.
Principal photography on ‘Doomsday’ ran from late April through mid-September of 2025, at which point The Hollywood Reporter indicated the studio was planning a substantial round of reshoots to follow. Writers Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron have reportedly continued polishing the script throughout this extended process, giving the production room to adjust scenes even after the main shoot wrapped.
David Harbour, who plays Red Guardian, previously confirmed he’d be returning to London for additional filming, while other reports have suggested Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Elizabeth Olsen could also be involved in some capacity. Richtman has specifically noted that much of this additional photography centers on new character-focused scenes, aimed at giving the ensemble more moments of genuine interaction rather than isolated appearances.
That approach makes sense given how the film is expected to bring together characters who’ve had limited screen time together so far. ‘Doomsday’ will reportedly mark the first time Sam Wilson’s new Avengers lineup appears in action as a unit, while the recently formed New Avengers team, previously known as the Thunderbolts, have only shared the screen together in a single prior film.
Other reports have floated an even wider net of potential cameo additions during this round of filming, with names like Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange all circulating as possibilities. None of these appearances have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, but the sheer volume of names being floated speaks to just how large in scope this film is shaping up to be.
The confirmed cast already includes major names like Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, and Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, among dozens of others spanning multiple corners of the MCU. Adding a wave of surprise cameos on top of that roster would push the film’s scale even further into uncharted territory for the franchise.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently set for a December 18 release, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following roughly a year later. As additional photography continues, expect more cameo rumors to surface in the months leading up to the film’s premiere.
