Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch Stunt Double Just Reignited Wanda’s MCU Return Rumors for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Wanda Maximoff’s fate has been one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most stubborn mysteries since ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ left her buried under a collapsing mountain in 2022. No body was ever shown on screen, and that small detail has kept fan theories about a Scarlet Witch comeback alive for years.

The mystery only deepened when Elizabeth Olsen wasn’t included in the official cast announcement for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ back in March 2025. That absence hasn’t stopped speculation, especially as the film heads into a new round of reshoots ahead of its December release, with rumors swirling that Wanda could still find her way into the story in some form.

That speculation kicked into high gear this week after Jennifer White, Olsen’s longtime movement coach and stunt double for the role, reposted a set of throwback photos with the actress on Instagram. The image, marked “2014!”, shows the two of them together from years of working on the character, and the timing has fans convinced it’s more than a simple trip down memory lane.

The post arrived just as reports indicate that cast and crew are still filming additional scenes for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ ahead of its December 18 release date. According to entertainment scooper MyTimeToShineHello, White reportedly filmed something recently while wearing an outfit resembling Wanda’s costume from ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ adding fuel to the idea that Scarlet Witch could be involved in the additional photography.

That report has reportedly been corroborated by insider Daniel Richtman, who also noted that production on ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is expected to begin at the end of September. Taken together, the details have plenty of fans convinced that sidelining a character as powerful as Wanda simply wouldn’t make sense for a story built around multiversal stakes.

Reaction to White’s post was immediate and enthusiastic. One fan comment read, “Screaming crying throwing up welcome back motherrrrrrr,” while another simply declared, “WE ARE SO BACK.” Others responded with more cautious optimism, including gifs referencing Hawkeye’s warning in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ not to get anyone’s hopes up too soon.

Despite the excitement, Olsen herself has been fairly direct about not being part of ‘Doomsday’ as filming got underway. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen explained that she has become deliberate about choosing projects outside of Marvel that reflect her own artistic taste, noting that stepping outside the franchise’s massive footprint has become an important part of how she picks roles.

That said, plenty of MCU actors have played coy about their involvement in projects before ultimately showing up in the finished film. It wouldn’t be the first time a cast list turned out to be incomplete by design, especially with a movie as secretive as this one.

Marvel Studios has also stoked the fire in other ways, showcasing a costume for a character known as the “Latverian Witch” at San Diego Comic-Con this year. The design has led some fans to theorize that Doctor Doom could be controlling a variant of Wanda to boost his own power within the film’s multiversal conflict.

If that theory holds up, it would give Wanda a compelling path back into the story without requiring Marvel to walk back the emotional weight of her apparent sacrifice. A version of the character bent to Doom’s will could set up a redemption arc down the line in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ giving her unfinished journey a proper conclusion.

Whether White’s throwback post ends up meaning anything concrete for Wanda’s future remains to be seen, but it’s clear the timing has reignited a conversation Marvel fans never really let go of.
