Disney’s ‘Hexed’ Reveals New Look at Its Magical Teen Heroine, Hailee Steinfeld, and Her Three-Eyed Sidekick, Walton Goggins

Disney Animation has spent the past year gradually pulling back the curtain on its next original theatrical feature, teasing a coming-of-age fantasy that trades familiar fairy tale trappings for something stranger and more contemporary. What began as a fairly mysterious project at last year’s Destination D23 has since evolved into one of the studio’s more anticipated upcoming releases.

That project is ‘Hexed,’ an original animated dramedy following Billie Doe, an impulsive teenage girl voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, whose ordinary suburban life gets upended when she discovers hidden magical abilities. Those powers hurtle her into Hexe, a sprawling realm of witches, forcing her to team up with her cautious mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, to untangle family secrets that could reshape the magical world forever.

Now Disney has shared a fresh look at two of the film’s central figures together, showing off new artwork of Billie alongside her sidekick, Beef Roger Crummchuk, a three-eyed green cat voiced by Walton Goggins. The image places the pair inside a cluttered, candlelit room filled with spellbooks, potion ingredients and a bubbling cauldron, offering fans their clearest glimpse yet of the film’s witchy visual style.

Goggins’ casting as the oddly named feline sidekick came as one of the more unexpected reveals during Disney’s D23 presentation earlier this month, alongside the announcement that two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster would voice the film’s villain, Queen Celeste. For Foster, the role marks a full-circle moment with the studio, whose relationship with her stretches back to her early career projects like ‘Napoleon and Samantha’ and the original ‘Freaky Friday.’

Rounding out the voice cast are Tracey Ullman as Ms. Quill, an enchanted talking quill pen, and Stephen Fry as Elias Quire, a magical sentient journal who accompanies Billie on her journey through Hexe. The ensemble reflects Disney’s continued interest in populating its original animated worlds with a mix of established stars and offbeat character concepts.

‘Hexed’ is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn, previously behind 2023’s ‘Wish,’ alongside Jason Hand, who worked on ‘Moana 2,’ with Josie Trinidad co-directing after her work on the ‘Zootopia+’ series. The film marks Disney Animation’s sixty-fifth theatrical feature, continuing a lineage of original stories that have become increasingly rare amid the industry’s broader pivot toward sequels and franchise extensions.

The film’s premise has evolved considerably since its initial reveal. It was first announced at Destination D23 in August 2025 as a story centered on an awkward teenage boy and his type-A mother discovering the boy’s unusual traits were magical in nature, before Disney’s CinemaCon presentation earlier this year updated the concept to instead center on Billie, the impulsive teen girl audiences will now meet on screen.

That shift in direction, paired with the steady stream of character reveals throughout the year, suggests Disney has been carefully building anticipation for what could become another major addition to its animated slate. With ‘Hexed’ set to arrive in theaters exclusively on November 25, audiences won’t have to wait much longer to see whether the film’s peculiar blend of witchcraft and suburban comedy lives up to its increasingly colorful cast of characters.
