George Clooney Just Publicly Backed ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Star Mark Ruffalo Over the Paramount-Warner Bros. Feud

Discovery drags on, and the drama has only intensified as Paramount Skydance pushes forward with its bid. His comments arrived during what was framed as a broader conversation touching on the current state of American politics and the rise of artificial intelligence, suggesting the merger has become just one thread in a wider anxiety many in Hollywood are grappling with.

Clooney and Ruffalo aren’t alone in raising concerns. The controversy echoes an earlier, related dispute involving James Cameron, who wrote to Senator Mike Lee opposing a different scenario where Netflix would have acquired Warner Bros. Discovery, arguing it would hurt the theatrical business. Ruffalo pushed back on Cameron directly at the time, asking pointedly whether Cameron held the same objections to a potential Paramount acquisition, or whether his concerns applied only to Netflix.

Other prominent industry figures have voiced their own reservations as the Paramount deal has advanced. Actor Tessa Thompson previously told the Associated Press that the uncertainty is “worrisome” for people making and producing work, while lawmakers including Senator Adam Schiff have called for the merger to face the “highest levels of scrutiny.”

With Clooney now adding his name to the list of prominent voices questioning the deal’s logic, and Ruffalo continuing to face public friction with Paramount over his comments, the merger fight shows no signs of quieting down.
