New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ TV Spot Zeroes In on Doctor Doom’s Chilling Transformation
Marvel Studios has spent the back half of 2026 in full promotional overdrive, dropping trailers, D23 exclusives, and Comic-Con footage at a pace that makes it clear just how much is riding on this December release. With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ having wrapped up the franchise’s last true team-up seven years ago, the pressure to make ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ feel like a genuine event has shaped nearly every marketing beat since.
That rollout has leaned heavily on one figure above all others. Robert Downey Jr.’s pivot from Tony Stark to Doctor Doom has anchored the promotional campaign, with Marvel gradually revealing more of his transformation across a series of character teasers, a full trailer, and a special D23 look narrated by Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm warning the assembled heroes about the danger Doom now poses.
That drip-feed approach continues with a brand new TV spot for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ offering another glimpse of Downey’s villain ahead of the film’s December 18 theatrical release. The short clip keeps the focus tight on Doom himself, continuing Marvel’s strategy of letting the character’s menace carry the marketing rather than spoiling too much of the broader ensemble conflict.
Much of the anticipation surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ stems from the sheer novelty of watching Downey, who spent eleven films building goodwill as Iron Man, step into the role of the MCU’s next major antagonist. That shift represents a genuine gamble for Marvel, asking longtime fans to root against, or at least fear, an actor they’ve cheered for over more than a decade.
The D23 trailer leaned directly into that tension, with Kirby’s Sue Storm narrating that she knew Doom was lost but hadn’t realized how thoroughly he was broken, while Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic confronted him amid the rubble and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor promised Doom would be “begging for hell” before facing him. Marvel has used that same emotionally charged footage across multiple promotional beats, including reworked visuals in this newest spot that build on material first shown at Comic-Con.
‘Doomsday’ marks Marvel’s 39th mainline film and its most sprawling crossover yet, pulling together the core Avengers lineup with the ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ cast, the ‘Thunderbolts’ ensemble, and, notably, several legacy X-Men actors making their official MCU debut following Disney’s acquisition of Fox. That combination gives directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously helmed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ an ensemble even larger than what powered those two record-breaking predecessors.
Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers alongside Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter adds another emotional layer to the film’s marketing, with both actors teasing at D23 that their ‘Endgame’ happy ending wasn’t quite as settled as it seemed. That tease, paired with the mystery still surrounding Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s rumored involvement, has kept fan speculation running at a fever pitch throughout the promotional cycle.
With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ also getting a theatrical re-release next month to remind audiences where everyone was left off, Marvel is clearly treating December 18 as the culmination of a carefully built lead-up rather than just another blockbuster release. As the countdown to theaters continues, expect even more Doom-centric footage before the film finally arrives.
