Marvel’s mutant heroes have gone through more visual reinventions on screen than almost any other franchise property, adapting and readapting across two decades of X-Men films before finally crossing over into the main MCU timeline. Few characters illustrate that evolution quite as clearly as Hank McCoy, whose Beast persona has been reimagined multiple times since Kelsey Grammer first took on the role back in 2006.

That transformation continued after Grammer’s brief but memorable return as Beast during the post-credits scene of ‘The Marvels,’ where the character appeared dressed as a scientist in a white lab coat and glasses rather than embracing his more feral superhero side. Fans have been curious ever since about how the character would be reintroduced for his next major MCU appearance.

Fresh promotional artwork for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has now answered that question, spotlighting a significantly reworked version of Beast that leans much closer to his classic comic book design. The new look strips away the lab coat entirely, instead showcasing Hank McCoy’s large, fur-covered physique in a way that firmly emphasizes his superhero identity over his scientist background.

The redesign marks a clear departure from how audiences first encountered Grammer’s Beast in the MCU proper. According to ComicBasics, the character’s new appearance was revealed through concept art shared by former Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park, giving fans one of their clearest looks yet at how Beast will factor into the larger ensemble cast.

That shift toward a more comic-accurate design fits into a broader pattern seen throughout the film’s marketing campaign, which has consistently favored classic, source-material-inspired looks for its returning X-Men characters. Gambit has similarly received a more comic-faithful redesign for the film, suggesting Marvel is intentionally leaning into nostalgia for longtime comic readers as it reintroduces these legacy mutants.

Beast’s inclusion in the ensemble also represents a meaningful upgrade in screen time compared to his fleeting cameo appearance. Where ‘The Marvels’ offered only a brief glimpse of the character inside an X-Men research facility, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is expected to give Grammer a proper role within the film’s massive main roster.

Beast joins an enormous cast list for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which brings together heroes and villains from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. According to ComicBookMovie, the film’s confirmed roster includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr., alongside newcomers to the franchise such as Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Lewis Pullman.

Rounding out the ensemble are ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, along with returning X-Men franchise veterans including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden alongside Grammer. That sprawling cast list continues to grow with each new wave of promotional material.
