‘Alien: Earth’ Season 2 Officially Begins Filming, and the Xenomorphs Are Already on Set

FX’s genre-bending take on the ‘Alien‘ franchise proved to be one of the more unexpected sci-fi hits of the past year, blending corporate horror with body-swap tragedy in a way few prequels manage to pull off. Noah Hawley’s series took the iconic Xenomorph mythology and grounded it firmly on Earth, introducing a cast of synthetic “hybrid” children caught between warring megacorporations.

That first season ended on a genuinely tense note, with Wendy and her fellow Lost Boys seizing control of Prodigy’s island installation, flanked by a pair of Xenomorphs and declaring their independence from the humans who created them. It was the kind of cliffhanger practically begging for a continuation, and fans didn’t have to wait long to get one.

Now that continuation has officially begun. Season 2 of ‘Alien: Earth’ is confirmed to be in production, with the first behind-the-scenes footage showing cast member Babou Ceesay, who plays cyborg Morrow, holding up a clapperboard on set before confirming the season is officially underway.

Production has relocated significantly from where the series started. While Season 1 filmed in Thailand, Season 2 is now shooting in London at Pinewood Studios, giving the sequel season a notably different production footprint than its predecessor.

Showrunner Noah Hawley is back at the helm, with Sydney Chandler reprising her role as Wendy alongside the rest of the ensemble that made the first season such a standout. Joining the cast for Season 2 are Peter Dinklage, Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell, and Jerome Flynn, a lineup that adds serious genre pedigree to an already stacked roster.

Spruell’s addition marks a reunion of sorts with Hawley, since the two previously worked together on ‘Fargo,’ the showrunner’s other acclaimed FX series. Details on what characters these new additions will play haven’t been disclosed yet, leaving plenty of room for speculation about how they’ll factor into the show’s escalating corporate war.

Hawley has been fairly open about where he wants to take the story next, even before Season 2 was officially greenlit. Discussing the Season 1 finale’s triumphant “now we rule” moment, he framed it as just the beginning of a much bigger problem, since the Weyland-Yutani ships are still on their way.

“I’m interested in exploring the corporate politics of it,” he told Empire, laying out plans to dig deeper into the five corporations governing Earth in the show’s timeline. He went on to compare that corporate landscape to something with real dramatic stakes, drawing a comparison to the kind of scheming and power struggles fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ would recognize.

Hawley has also indicated that Wendy and the other hybrids will remain the emotional core of the series moving forward, even as the story expands beyond the island setting that defined Season 1. Given how the franchise has always used containment, whether it’s a spaceship, a facility, or an island, as a central metaphor, pushing past that boundary in Season 2 sets up a natural next chapter for the show’s mythology.

FX renewed ‘Alien: Earth’ for Season 2 back in November 2025, a decision that came alongside a broader overall deal between Hawley and FX/Disney Entertainment Television. No premiere date has been set yet, though with cameras now officially rolling, fans finally have concrete confirmation that the next chapter of Wendy’s story is moving forward.

Given how quickly Season 1 built a devoted following, the wait for actual footage and a release window is likely to feel long.
