Mike Colter Teases Defenders Reunion in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3, Compares It to Oasis
Marvel’s Netflix-era heroes have spent years existing in a strange kind of limbo, beloved by fans but seemingly stuck outside the mainline MCU following the shows’ cancellations. That started to change once Charlie Cox’s Daredevil resurfaced in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ setting off years of speculation about whether the rest of the so-called Defenders might eventually follow him back.
That speculation reached a boiling point back in April, when set photos from Brooklyn revealed Mike Colter and Finn Jones filming alongside Krysten Ritter for ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ Season 3. The sighting all but confirmed that Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones would be reuniting on screen for the first time since their underwhelming 2017 team-up in ‘The Defenders.’
Now Colter himself is opening up about what that long-awaited reunion means to him personally. Speaking about his return as Luke Cage, Colter compared the anticipation surrounding a Defenders comeback to the excitement fans feel when long-dormant bands finally reunite.
“There’s always someone who wants to see that greatness,” Colter said, according to Collider, drawing comparisons to Oasis reuniting after 20 years and floating the idea that even ABBA could pack houses if the group ever got back together. He added that regardless of how long it takes, he and the cast will be ready whenever Marvel decides to bring the team back together.
Colter’s comments carry extra weight given just how long fans have waited for this moment. Colter, Ritter and Jones each anchored their own solo Marvel series throughout the mid-to-late 2010s, with ‘Jessica Jones’ launching first in 2015, followed by ‘Luke Cage’ in 2016 and ‘Iron Fist’ in 2017, all before the characters teamed up for ‘The Defenders’ that same year to battle the mysterious criminal organization known as The Hand.
Despite the crossover’s disappointing critical reception at the time, the individual characters have retained a devoted fanbase over the years, one that’s only grown louder as Marvel folded the original Netflix shows into official MCU canon. Ritter’s addition to ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 last year served as the first concrete sign that a broader reunion might finally be within reach.
Colter confirmed the reunion himself back in April, posting a photo alongside Jones and Ritter on social media with the caption, “Been a while…”, to which Jones jokingly replied that the secret was officially out. The costumes visible in those set photos suggested Colter’s Luke Cage has returned to the more polished look he sported by the end of his original series, when the character had taken over ownership of Harlem’s Paradise nightclub.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in March 2027 for another eight-episode run on Disney+. The new season reportedly picks up six months after Season 2’s explosive finale, with Matt Murdock in prison over his past vigilante activities and former New York Mayor Wilson Fisk living in exile while trying to rebuild his criminal empire.
Given how central Fisk’s downfall and Murdock’s imprisonment appear to be heading into the new season, the return of Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones could play a significant role in how the show navigates the fallout from those storylines. Exactly how large a part the reunited Defenders will play in the season’s overall plot remains unclear, though their combined presence alone marks a major shift for the franchise.
Colter’s reflections on patience and long-awaited comebacks suggest the actor views this reunion as something worth savoring after nearly a decade of uncertainty about these characters’ futures. Whether the show finally delivers the kind of team-up fans have wanted since 2017 remains to be seen once Season 3 actually arrives.
With Daredevil himself notably absent from the recent reunion photos, fans are left wondering exactly how and when Cox’s character will factor into bringing the group back together on screen.
