Gary Oldman Just Dropped a Massive Hint About Who’s Playing the Next James Bond

The search for the next 007 has been one of Hollywood’s longest-running guessing games, stretching back years since Daniel Craig hung up his tuxedo for good. With Amazon MGM Studios now firmly steering the franchise, speculation has only intensified around who might inherit one of cinema’s most iconic roles.

That speculation reached a new level this weekend, courtesy of an actor who wasn’t even supposed to be the one making headlines about Bond. Gary Oldman, currently promoting the new season of ‘Slow Horses,’ found himself fielding questions about his co-star’s rumored ties to the franchise.

During an interview with Canada’s Global network, Oldman revealed that a new James Bond has already been chosen, though the studio hasn’t made the announcement public yet. He went further, expressing hope that the actor selected is none other than his ‘Slow Horses’ co-star Jack Lowden.

Oldman explained that it’s been rumored Lowden is on the shortlist, adding that everyone will find out soon enough because Amazon has already picked him, even if the studio hasn’t confirmed the decision publicly. He capped the comments off by saying his fingers are crossed for Jack.

It’s worth noting that Oldman’s phrasing left some ambiguity about exactly what he meant. It’s unclear whether he was confirming Lowden specifically has been cast, or simply referring more broadly to Amazon MGM Studios having finalized their pick for the next 007 without naming names.

Oldman and Lowden have shared the screen together on ‘Slow Horses’ since 2022, giving the veteran actor a front-row seat to his co-star’s rising profile. Lowden has continued building momentum this year, appearing in ‘Rogue Trooper,’ with upcoming projects including ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘Berlin Noir’ also on his slate.

This isn’t the first time Lowden’s name has surfaced in connection with Bond, either. Podcast host Richard Osman previously claimed on ‘The Rest Is Entertainment’ that a source had told him Lowden was the actor selected for the role, adding that he personally thought Lowden would bring the same kind of energy Daniel Craig brought to the character.

Casting speculation has swirled around several other names throughout the process as well. Reports indicated that auditions took place in August, with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, along with director Denis Villeneuve, meeting with a shortlist that reportedly included Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi alongside Lowden.

Villeneuve is set to direct the upcoming film, with ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight penning the script, giving the new Bond era a distinctly prestige pedigree behind the camera. Amazon MGM Studios has not responded publicly to Oldman’s comments, and representatives have been approached for further clarification.

Whether Oldman’s remarks turn out to be an accidental reveal or simply an educated guess from someone deeply embedded in the British acting world remains to be seen. For now, fans eager for an official Bond announcement will have to keep waiting, though Oldman’s comments have certainly added fresh fuel to the ongoing speculation.
