‘Onslaught’ Star Adria Arjona Admits She “Almost Got Busted” Trying Not to Spoil Her Secret DC Role in ‘Man of Tomorrow’
James Gunn’s DC Universe has become one of the industry’s best-kept open secrets, and few actors have had to work harder at protecting a spoiler than Adria Arjona. Ever since her casting in the Superman follow-up ‘Man of Tomorrow‘ first surfaced, fans have spent months trying to pry loose exactly who she’s playing.
That mystery has only deepened as production wrapped and press commitments picked up. Gunn’s sequel, which reunites David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult and centers on Superman and Lex Luthor teaming up to fight Brainiac, has assembled a stacked new cast that includes Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Milly Alcock, and Lars Eidinger alongside Arjona.
For months, speculation around Arjona’s role has bounced between two possibilities, with fans debating whether she’s playing the DCU’s version of Maxima or stepping into the far bigger shoes of Wonder Woman. Arjona herself finally addressed the rumor mill directly, admitting that the theory she “may be, or may be not playing Maxima… or Wonder Woman” is the wildest thing she’s ever heard said about herself.
That kind of teasing has become something of a pattern for her, and during a recent appearance on Screen Rant’s Coffee Chats series, Arjona opened up about just how difficult it’s become to navigate interviews without letting something slip. “I don’t want to lie, but I also want to protect the audience’s experience,” Arjona told Screen Rant. “It’s a little dance that I’m learning to navigate, and it’s hard. It’s really hard. I almost got busted.”
The near-slip came when she was asked to offer three spoiler words that fans wouldn’t be able to piece together without seeing the film. Arjona admitted she genuinely had three words in mind before catching herself, joking that she’d “just got into the DC universe” and didn’t want to risk getting fired before her character even hits screens.
It isn’t the first time she’s danced right up to the line without fully crossing it. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, Arjona gushed about her wardrobe for the role, saying she loves her costume, both of them, in fact, a comment that only added fuel to the theory that her character might be tied to more than one comic book identity.
Beyond the secrecy, Arjona has also been candid about just how physically demanding the role has been. She previously told Screen Rant that she’s built “muscles that I’ve never had in my life” while training two to three hours a day on a strict diet, fueled largely by coffee, in preparation for whatever action the role requires.
Part of what makes the project personal for Arjona is the reunion at its center. ‘Man of Tomorrow’ marks her first collaboration with Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran in roughly a decade, since the pair gave her one of her first major film roles in 2016’s ‘The Belko Experiment.’ She’s described being back on set with them as an emotional full-circle moment, especially since her scenes wrapped just as the larger production was coming to a close.
That timing, paired with her repeated insistence on staying tight-lipped, has only intensified fan theories that her role could be a smaller appearance designed to set up a bigger DCU future down the line. Whether that means a Wonder Woman introduction or something else entirely, Arjona clearly isn’t planning to confirm it before ‘Man of Tomorrow’ actually hits theaters in 2027.
Until then, fans will have to settle for parsing every near-slip and costume comment for clues, the same game Arjona seems to be enjoying just as much as everyone else.
